RECORDING FROM 8 INDIVIDUAL OUTS Vs. STEREO OUTS

Wassup Peoples,

In an article appeared on a well known magazine, an engineer working with an even better known producer, suggests tracking from the 2 stereo outs of the MPC instead of the 8 individual outputs.
It's stated that this way the result is a grittier and fatter sound.

Honestly, I always tracked samples from the 8 outputs and add overall ambiance with the 2 stereo outs, but I'll soon experiment the other way and compare the results.

For the Ones who got the 8 outs option, I'd like to know how you Fellas usually work.

i use the 8 outs. thats why I bought it. my beats sound fine. 'nuff said lol.



its up to you, but i have much more control over my sounds using the 8 outs and by the time im done adding my effects, eq, etc to each channel on my mixer, i have my stuff sounding great! so even if there was a small difference in the sound (between using 8 outs and stereo outs) i couldnt tell cause i already fattened up the sound!

imo, thats THEIR way of doing it. and I have my way and it works!

I suppose you're not processing your sounds in your DAW, cuz you can have control over all your sounds in Pro Tools whether you track with the 8 outs or with the 2 outs

Where do they sound fine? In an acoustically treated room with appropriate monitors?

nope I rarely track out anymore. I suppose if you track out into your DAW then you can skip the whole 8 out thing. Me, I just send each out into a channel on the mixer and process it there. get everything soundin nice and record straight to a stereo file in Adobe Audition when the beat is finished. So depending on your setup, whatever works best for you.

They sound fine in my work space. I have small monitors (RP5's) and an almost square shaped room. My music usually sounds pretty good on other peoples systems, too. I've listened in a few cars also and they usually sound decent. But see, I know my monitors. A well tuned work space is always a plus, but knowing your monitors is important. I've worked on them long enough to know how things should sound when mixed well.
