miding mpc2000xl with mo phat and e-mu

i have been searching for hours through this forum and different search engines. I tried reading the manual and i still cant figure out how to midi. i am trying to midi my 2000xl with a mophat synth to a emu midi controller. I have the 2000xl midi in conneced to my controller. Then the midi out A on the mpc to the mophat synthezier. When i go to output monitor i can see the notes i play but i cant hear them. Can someone please help me by telling me what to do or pointing me in the right direction. PLEASE.

well first off, do you have the mo phatt audio outs going into something so you can hear whats coming out? like a mixer or something?

no its just connected to the mpc. i just have it connected to the mpc. i have pro tools and a dj mixer connected to speakers.

Thats the problemo - the mpc 2kxl can't sample unless if its in sample mode - ie you can't do midi stuff, or play a sequence, and hear audio incoming to the mpc at the same time.

You gotta hook the outs of the mo phatt up to your mixer and monitor them that way.

so if i hook it up to a mixer i can hear it? i want to use the mpc as the master and sequence everything together through the mpc.

Yup, if you plug the outs of the emu, and the outs of the mpc into your mixer (ie you need at least 4 channels - 2 devices X stereo = 4) then you'll be able to hear everything.

For MPC as master, you should do:

MPC MIDI out 1(a) -> MO Phatt Midi In 1
Mo Phatt Midi Out 1 -> MPC Midi In 1(a)

This is called a MIDI "handshake"

Now, if you set your track in a sequence to MIDI: 1A, you should be able to tap the pads and play the mo phatt. I think you can even get the MPC to change the patches on the mo phatt, but I don't remember how - prolly easier just to change em yourself.
