Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Paul_Caruso Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:25 pm
My MPC2000 arrived this morning so I'm new to everything. I plugged in the Zip drive it came with and switched it on and the screen says "Please insert MPC2000 boot disk"

From what I've read already, I just need to create a new boot disk, put it in the floppy drive and load it into the mpc.

I downloaded the latest OS (1.72?) and OS Maker but I can't figure out how to use it. Do I need a pc with dos/win9x and a floppy drive? Where do I find these in 2007? :)

I don't suppose anyone in London (pref. north or west) has a spare disk or facilities to make one? Post trade?

I only paid £90 for it (with 32mb and 8 outs) from someone on eBay who had no idea what they go for so I can't really get help from them.

General help would be great thanks - can't wait to get going.

you need a floppy disk to put the os on (the zip file with 1.72, you need to unzip the file, what you get out of that file put those (2) files on the floppy disk)

as soon as thats done
put the disk in the mpc and boot it up
it should work fine now

The 2 files are mpc2000.exe and mpc2000.sys, does the mpc run .exe files? Do I not have to use osmaker?

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I just went to a computer shop near my house and they let me use their usb floppy drive with my laptop so I made a copy and a backup. Works fine!

I had a quick play around before I had to go to work and it seems like it's all working. I loaded a patch off a zip I got with it and could play the song/sequence and play the sounds assigned to the pads so it's a good start.
