Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What's up people.
I new to this site and just recently purchased a MPC1200XL. I'm going to install a SCSI card reader and was wondering what OS version I should install. I was reading some posts on this site and seems like people are saying different things. I saw a video on youtube (http://youtube.com/watch?v=F967dlV5jvc) saying I should install the latest version 1.14 and not 1.2. This this correct? Also am I going to be able to use a 2G compact flash card if I format it in the DOS prompt? Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure you only need to switch the os to 1.14 or 1.20 if your going to install an internal atapi cardreader. The scsi cardreader should work fine with any xl os.

Cool thanks. So I was about to install OS 1.20 with the floppy before I change out the drive but it every time I tried loading the MPC2KXL.BIN file, it would say "DISK READ ERROR." What do I do?

I was thinking about changing out my drive first but I was wondering if OS 1.11 (which I currently have) would be able to read my CF 2G card. That's why I wanted to update my OS first before putting in the new drive.

What do you think?

I think the xl with 1.20 only reads max of 1g.You might check the floppy drive connections or get another floppy for cheap and load up the os.Also your floppy disk could have gone bad,you could try using a new disk.

I installed 1.20 some how. However I still have a problem. I can't partition my 2G cf card. The guy at scsiforsamplers . com said that the MPC could read up to 8G. That's what he told me and that 2G should be alright. He said the way the MPC2000XL partitions the card is kind of weird. The way it does it is by doing multiple partitions. If you go to the format menu, and you see at the right is says "Parts:", and on top of that you'll see "size=". You can select how many partitions you want, eg. "A-C" means there are 3 partitions at a certain size that corresponds to the amount of partitions. So essentially you have 3 separate storage spaces in that flash card if you choose "A-C". You can divide up the partition from "A-C"(3 partitions) to "A-Z" (26 partitions).

In my case, I'm using a "Dane-Elec" CF 2G card (which I got from the web site above)

At "A-C" partitions I get 680 Megs = 2.040G
At "A-Z" partitions I get 78 Megs = 2.28G
*I'm not going to type out all the different partitions. I have to take a chit pretty soon.

The 2.040G and 2.28G means that MPC2000XL is acknowledging the 2G card.

My question is how do I save my work to a certain partition? When I go to the save/load screen I don't have the option to choose a certain partition.

I was pretty sure the xl could only accept up to 1g with 1.20.
