memory does'nt serve me right. Anybody know?

My Mpc 2000 will still only hold 128 sounds WITH the memory upgrade. But the manual says it will hold up to 24 programs? does this mean 24 programs with only 4 sounds each, ur what. Anybody know?

page 2 of the xl manual says "256 sounds (samples) may be held in memory at one time". not sure if that applies for the 2k classic tho.

Never maxed out my xl due to no. of sounds.

yup, that's a lot of sounds. what're you really gonna do with that many sounds on one beat that's not overkill?

I think I'd hit a wall on memory before I'd hit a wall on number of sounds. I've been known to stack drums like mad in software and pull in a bunch of VSTi but even then I don't think I got up to 256 completely unique 'sounds'.

yah, I feel ya on that, but if I do a sequence with 1 sound from 5 different programs that each have sounds on all 64 pads it won't load all five programs at once due to the fact that 2 programs with 64 sounds would be 128 sounds? am I trippin? do I need to just make smaller programs with only the sounds i want to use on each sequence? or am I jus missin the point?

instead of loading the whole programs just load sounds to the ones your working with. no reason for the whole thing if your only using one or two sounds from it

Yeah, it's true in the 2000 you can only use 128 sounds at a time (XL can hold up to 256 sounds) regardless of how small they are as long as they can fit into memory... I had one before... as far as the programs, yes you can load up to 24, (providing as long as they can fit into memory)... Example, say I have my first program of 64 drum sounds, I could either create 24 different variants of that, or 12 different variants of a program with 128 sounds... Etc... one more question on this. If you load only the sounds you need for one sequence, when you save the sequence do you have to create a new program with just those sounds on it?

if you assign sounds to pads and play them you have to save the program otherwise the sounds wont be saved to the pads after u turn it off then back on
