I reckon the XL is about as good as it will get - let them concentrate on getting the 4000 and 1000 stable. My XL is very stable and we know for a fact that there's no room left for more features, not without dropping others. And then who knows what instability these new changes will create.

No, I'm not stopping you starting up a petition if you feel strong enough about it. I'm just saying that I don't feel the urge to put my name or site at the head of one - there goes my link from the Akai web site for a start. I can't see them being too happy about me causing them bother. Add to that the fact that I don't particularly feel there is a need for a new OS....

Another option is to return your MPC - if it is faulty, you are entitled to a refund or a repair - you don't have to put up with faulty products. After all it may not be the OS causing the problem - maybe a hardware fault is the root of your problems.

Personally, 1.14 has never frozen on me (1.12 did regularly)

True, dem should concentrate on getting stable new products, and when it is (like the XL in 1.14) why not develop dem? . They just add a unit (MFC 42, not so good tool...), that ain't musical development, it's all 'bout the bizz...

In a way, I sorta agree with Tutor....I hear every1's cry for an update but no one has really come up with a 'possible' upgrade feature to petition for. So to me, it would just seem like I was asking for an update coz I felt it was 'due'

If there were some serious issues that we were all experiencing and akai were turning a blind eye to this fact and treating us (customers) like shhhhit then yea, I'd be apart of it but to me , I'm cool....My PC performs much worse.

Ps. If there is evidence that there is room for improvement and a prototype of possible features comes to light then I might consider telling akai to pull there finger out but untill then, Im just gonna get on with what i do with Ver 1.14

It's a fact that these days that hi-tech products simply get replaced by more advanced machines. That's business - people always want something new and sparkly and companies are not going to spend years and cash trying to update the same old product, not when they can utilise new technology to create more exciting gear. I believe all that is left for the XL is merely new paint jobs, because that doesn't really cost much to implement. Look at the zip versions of the XL - here was no major new production needed, as they built in the internal IDE port from the very start, so it was just change the internal cable and use a palete of zip drives over floppies.

Any new features they add to the XL will probably mean a new hardware set up is needed (bigger processor for a start) - i.e. best off making a new MPC.

Akai will probably say, 'If you need more features from your MPC, upgrade to MPC4000 .'

So any of u know how to sort the samples and folders in the mpc?????
I hate having a whole bunch of samples and i gotta scroll truu thousands of them just to find it.

all I would like to see are the following for the XL:

1. Less memory and mtc/midi freeze problems

2. MTC bugs fixed (synchronization). I would like the mpc to start right away when controlling it from an external controller instead of missing the 1st beats. preferably with using the sequence in loop mode. I don't want to have to add blank bars/measures each and every time.

3. use scsi with a pc scsi card. (i'll even shell out for a special card for the XL if they develop it)

4. More memory if possible

5. Switching scsi device sometimes causes device to disappear until next bootup.

That's not a bug - I believe that's just the way MTC works.

My data dial is almost dead.. I get it to work tho because I'm too lazy to wait for it to be repaired, but even on my other devices with rotary knobs, they all died after a while. My ASR-X's knobs are just as bad. I'd like to see an upgrade with this, but it's not a software issue tho. My mpc has a certain personality that's I've gotten used to. You have to save your work often because you just never know. With my MPC, if it stays on for more than a few hours, then any sound thats a 'note off' won't play. Also, when it's on for a while, this is the main time that my mp 'may' crash. If you try to save your work to a floppy/zip that doesn't have enough space, that may cause it to crash too. But honestly, I doubt if my mp crashed 2 times in the last year. My computer crashes about once a week!
