NEW FLOPPY DRIVE?

Right, so i need a new one, anyone know where i can get one and cheap?
Aparently their not just normal floppy drives and have been modified by akai so you cant just get a normal one?

I just used a regular old floppy drive I had laying around B, worked no problem.

The word seems to be your typical floppy from any old PC may or may not work. I had to replace mine and did so with an old busted floppy I had laying around - no problem. 90 bucks for a floppy is just.....well, it's 2007 people. Come on now.

If I remember correctly, I think it has something to do with the drive select or something on older drives. My understanding is "newer" floppy drives don't have that line on them, or its configured differently or some sh!t, so that you don't have to do the modification. Any place that sells used computer parts should have floppy drives for $5, $10 at the most. Hell, you can buy one NEW from most places for less than $10.

The Roc is the Roc all day. No more or no less really than its been since I've been here. I'll leave it like that.

A lot of floppy drives with jumpers are set to DS1 and for the mpc you need DS0.

newegg has new ones for under 6 dollars. If you want a cheaper one, try some mom and pop computer stores. I seen some for as cheap as 2 bucks.

cheers for the help, i rang some guy whos ment to fix mpc's and he said about £70 for new drive and £35 for new sczi fuse!! I dont suppose any one knows where i can get one of those fuses?

DS0/DS1 is drive select - essentially what it means is how the drive is translated as either A: or B:, etc.

You should see some jumpers that allow you to change this setting on the drive. If you don't, it's a drive that's hard-set as one of the two and you can only pop it in and try it.

Google on the brand and type of your floppy drive and jumper settings or something...If the jumper block isn't big you can always experiment...

this is turning into an nightmare.
Any pictures telling you how to change the drive?
I unscrewed the chip board but its stuck to the pads etc...

I replaced the Floppy drive in my 2k with a normal one from the store. Only $20.

take your old drive to a computer store and get the same one..

If you bought an old second hand diskdrive, you better open it and clean the read/write head with some alcohol. (not the stuff you drink )
Or find a cleaning diskette.
