Should I upgrade to os 1.14

I just bought an mpc2000xl. I managed to connect a scsi cdrom drive and it is working as I can load some samples from the cd. Now, I have some akai pgm files on the cd. But when I load them it says it can't find some samples. I think it is a filename issue as I understand the mpc2000xl only reads 8 chars. Is there a way around this ? I'm currently with os 1.12. Should I upgrade to 1.14 in order to have it work ? (it's a version with a floppy drive, so 1.20 won't work i think) Also, how do I upgrade the unit. I allready have the 1.14 bin file. Should I copy it to a floppy and load it in the mpc ? How does it work ? Thanks.

Yes. Copy the bin file into ROOT directory on a floppy. Then just load the file and it will start the upgrade automatically.
Make sure that there are no important unsafed sounds in the memory, since upgrade will erase everything from RAM.
By the way, the .pgm file has to be in the same directory, same folder where all the samples are. Of course I mean samples 'connected' with certain Program.

Upgrade did work fine. But there's still the filename issue. Filenames longer than 8 chars are truncated. Can the mpc2000xl read long filenames ? I read around and it seems not to be possible according to other users. But when I look in the manual of the mpc2000xl, the examples do display the whole filenames/directory names. So what is going wrong ?

For example: I burnt the whole mpc_vol1 samples (i had them on my computer hard drive) to a cd (samples and programs). It's the same they use in the examples in the manual. It contains a directory MPC2000XL_DRUMS. Well this directory is displayed truncated (MPC2000X), but in the manual it is displayed correctly. Is it maybe a file format issue on the cd ? I understand AKAI has a dedicated file format. I burnt my files using Joliet file format on the cd. Is there a way around ?

Is there a way to create CD with the AKAI file format ?

yea there it shud be the longer names thas mashin up ur programs, does it alter the filenames in the folder? mine renames ish all types of stuff when the names are too long.... i got some txt on this at gaff... when i get back tonight il post it if its gonna help.
