SCSI Card Reader in MPC2000 classic, no soldering

Hello folks

I've looked at the various threads about putting a SCSi card reader in an MPC2000 classic and they all seem to suggest that you need to do that big soldering mod. However I emailed scsiforsamplers.com and they replied

"You can install one internally if you don't mind giving up the external SCSI
port. If you disconnect the cable running to that port inside the MPC2000,
you can replace it with a ribbon cable that runs directly to the Microtech
drive"

Can anyone confirm?

well i just got the MicroTech drive they're selling for $250 on ebay for less than $75 so haha!

Anyway, back to the thread.

That doesn't really make sense, because the port is hard wired to the main board. I've done 2 internal mods, and I probably would have noticed if it was that easy... though maybe I'm a massive moron!

Yeah that's what I thought ... that it was soldered not that you are a massive moron

peter, you're not a moron, just been inside the mpc and there is indeed NO additional SCSI port other than the connector soldered to the mobo

so i don't know what the scsiforsamplers guy is on about? perhaps he meant your mod

not sure what to do now, my soldering skills probably are good enough to do your mod but it doesn't look fun ... quite like the idea of passing cable from external port back into the machine (either through one of individual out holes or maybe the smpte hole) and to the drive but i'd need a weird cable to do that, ie socket to ribbon cable! ever seen one of those?

That's actually a pretty good idea (passing it through the SMPTE hole) but you'll need a 25/50 pin converter, which should not be too hard to track down.
Just for the record though "destruktiv" deserves all the credit for this mod. He posted the instructions. I just did a couple of them.

On the other hand though... squeezing the connector through that hole might be hard....
