MPC Timing/Midi Clock is Jittery?

**NOTE Problem below has been solved but there is a new prob...see post #7**

I use a MPC2000XL to sequence sounds from a Triton Pro. If I record something on Track 2, the notes on Track 1 get erased. I believe this can be fixed by changing a simple setting but I can't find it anywhere. It's been a couple years since I played with it, but everything worked perfectly before. Sound familiar to anyone?

Midi Setup:
MPC Out A > Triton In
Triton Out > MPC In 1

MPC Sync In
Mode: OFF
Receive MMC: OFF

Sync Out: AB
Mode: Midi Clock
Send MMC: ON

Triton Midi Settings:
Midi Channel: 1
Local Control: On
Midi Clock: External MIDI
Receive external realtime commands: ON

Also when I try to recording to a new track, the previous tracks don't playback. Maybe that might offer a clue. But it's as if the MPC is set to overwrite all previous tracks or something.

I can step record without destructing the other tracks. But on the fly it still doesnt work.

turn local control on the triton off. make sure you're in sequencer mode on the triton as well...you cant use combination mode or program mode. might want to turn off that receive external real time commands as well...

- Triton is in seq. mode. It's the only mode I ever use.
- If I turn off local control, I can't play the keys and record into the MPC (I have it setup so the MPC records whether I hit the pads or play the keys). But I tried and that's not the prob anyway.
- If I turn off 'receive ext. real time commands' then the MPC won't playback the Triton sounds.

I have a feeling it's a Triton issue. The midi clock keeps falling out of sync, won't save anything to disk, just acts funny sometimes. I'll try reinstalling the Triton OS.

how are you setting up your tracks ? drum ? midi? usually when you have local control on and have a track setup say piano on track 1 as a midi track input 1a you will get a midi echo. with it off it will play normal weather you play with the pads or the triton keys...

Ok, problem solved. Stupid me, I had it set to multiple track recording (M: MIDI: 8A-Device08 instead of S: MIDI). So everytime I recorded, all other tracks were erased. When you mentioned drum and midi, it made me look up what the S + M meant. So I thank you for that.

But there is a new problem:

I've noticed the timing is off sync, very jittery. I have a tick (for lack of a better term) on every 16th of the beat. It's a 4-bar loop and plays fine the 1st time around but when it loops back, the tick stutters randomly. Assuming it was a clock issue, I set the MPC not to send any MIDI Clock to the Triton, only playback it's sounds. There is still jitter. Ok, maybe it's my MOTU 828 so I unplugged that also. Still jittery. That means the issue is with the MPC. Unless I'm missing another setting. Any ideas?
