OK I BOUGHT THE MPC SECOND HAND WITHOUT A DISK. I DOWNLOADED THE SOFTWARE FROM THE AKAIPRO WEBSITE & PUT IT ON A FAT FORMATTED DISK. I INSERT THE DISK AND IT TELLS ME "INSERT MPC 2000 BOOT DISK" OR SOMETHING. I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE BOOT DISK! WHAT ELSE DO I NEED?

ANY HELP IS GREAT, THANKS!

I have floppys that when I make a new copy of the OS disk have to be repeatedly accessed 5 or so times before they start to get read.

Floppys suck. Get an external ZIP and throw the OS on a ZIP disk. If you do get a floppy to work, I'd suggest you make a copy or two to keep if/when one goes bad on you.

After you have downloaded the OS, make sure the application file and the system file are on the disk. The MPC will be looking for these files before the os is loaded to boot the MPC.

And, of course, as someone else mentioned before, when you get the OS disk to boot your MPC successfully, make several copies of the disk, in the event, the boot disk should fail, then you have another disk to boot with.
