mpc 2k reads "0 megabytes installed"!!

i opened up my 2k classic to make sure the simms were in tight cuz i was getting distorted sounds. after i closed it back up and went to sample my memory was at zero....someone please help a kid in need

Say my "G" it could be that you burnt it with static in your body, but if that was the case the 2k would still say 2megs. So the next thing I would say is maybe you have the wrong ones, try some new ones.

nah it read 32mb before.itjust started doin this when i pushed em in tight

Could try taking them out, cleaning the contacts and putting them back in, but uh, my vote goes with you fried em when you touched em.

Did you wear a discharge bracelet or at least touch something metal first? Did you set the MPC on something like carpet when you were doing this?

Since the 2MB of default memory is installed on the MB, shouldn't you see 2MB installed if you take the SIMMS back out?

Its not a lot, but at least it should give you some memory until you get the SIMMS. Might also tell you if the SIMMS is your only problem...

The 2k has 2 ram slots, and an onboard 2 meg. If the ram is maxed out (32 meg ) then the onboard gets canceled out-meaning no 38 meg. one 16 meg stick and it should read 18 meg. Try reseating the ram sticks....but fo real, those 2 meg atleast should come up, or something is arye on the main logicboard pcb in the mpc..

Same problem here except i removed my memory and it says zero sample time but reads the memory as 65388k at the load screen (shift+3) any ideas now or did that mix things to be messier ?

Ok I have tried 3 different working sets of memory still same problem. Any ideas ?

have it serviced, the bootloader probably needs to be reflashed or the intel chip that runs the mpc and contains the 2MB is defective.

When you say that is reads 0KB sample time, is this after loading the OS and the programs and sounds that load on boot? In other words, are there any samples in memory after the OS finishes loading? IF so, when you delete sounds from memory does it still say 0KB sample time?

Trying to remove any possible causes.

i think there is only one condition ever the mpc would display 0kb installed, thats when the flashrom is busted. Im not talking about OS as in os system but the machine language it runs on, that might need it reflashed into the chip at an akai service center or worse, needs replacing. So re-installing the os1.2 wont work either.
