8 Outs: I need some information on the setup...

Okay, I'm going to order the 8 Outputs for my MPC2000XL. I'm not too sure how I'm supposed to use it yet tho. This is what I'm thinking, I assign the sound I want to each output and whatever and then put them into my line in on my mixer. For example, output one to channell 1 on my mixer. But after I have all these connected, and I output my mixer into my soundcard, how can I sync my setup with Cool Edit? Like, when I start recording in Cool Edit, how do I get it so each sound goes onto a separate track?

1st off, it depends on what soundcard you got

I've got a sounblaster Audigy2

The 8 outs is not really gonna working to its best in that situation.

You'l have seperation on your desk or str8 outta your MP (how ever your gonna do it) but you wont be able to bounce them tracks down in one go...not even 2 goes

Basically, you'l need a soundcard that has multiple Line IN's - I'd say four minimum That way you can hook up for tracks to record at once .

I feel you. What type of soundcards have that many line ins? And also, how much would they run me?

God damnit. I see the Delta1010 has 8 ins and outs. But its $600! Well, I guess it's back to the streets servin' crack again. Hah, but naw. How do I do it with what I have so far, like I have the regular 2 stereo outs and shit. Can I just hook my shit up to the Line In on my mixer, then out it to my soundcard? Then I'll have to do it track by track wont I?

There are a few ways you can do it. The Audigy has 2 in and 2 out 1/4" right, if so you can run 2 of your 8 outs to the 1/4" Ins. (25% of potential)

You can purchase a Delta 44 instead of a 1010 for $225 which has 4 ins and 4 outs (50% of potntial)

What I am doing: purchase a Berhinger Digital 8 ($200) and a EMU 1212M ($199) the Digital 8 has 8 ins and an ADAT optical I/O the EMU 1212M has everything your Audigy card has (Soundblaster is owned by EMU) plus ADAT optical I/O. You just run the 8 outs from your MPC to the 8 ins on the Digital 8, then run the ADAT optical I/O from the Digital 8 to the soundcard and presto multitrack. The ADAT optical I/O is 8 channels. (100% of potential)

Aiight, aiight, so say I get the Delta 44, and the 8 outs for my MPC. How would I hook everything up so when I record into Cool Edit that the kick is on track one, the snare is on track 2, etc. How would I do that?

My friend Key M uses the delta setup but with Vegas, it's the same thing though, you can set up your tracks in CEP to record whatever inputs via delta44. 1/2 3/4 or 1 2 3 4 in the delta control panel

djames, you're on to something here with the digital8 and emu setup thing, is this the setup you use? How does it work? If you can elaborate you'd be doing your MPC community a valuable service my man...

I have already acquired the Behringer Digital 8, the EMU 1212M does not come out until 2/14/04 I already have mine on hold at the Guitar Center. Once I get everything installed I will gladly relay the info

Kase, your 8 outs are assigned to pads through the mixer function. So let's say your kick is stereo on pad 04, then you would assign this sound to 1/2 if the kick is mono it can be assigned to 1 or 2, ya dig.

Hey djames. Can you let me know if this setup worked for you? You should have the emu by now i figure.
I'm thinking about getting a digital mixer and a RME hammerfall. I know i can get a/d converters for the RME cheaper, but i'd like some eq and gaincontrol before everything is in the computer.

or you can do it the po' way like me and put a snare hit at the begining than record all the tracks seperate...and when your done match up the snare hits and you got yur track...sucks but it works
