Need To Know Which MPC for live. . .

Hi. I Use an MPC 2000XL in the studio and want to take my tracks on stage. The 2000xl doesnt have enough memory for me but i love the feeling of the pads. What do i do?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

well a MPC 4000, 1000 and 2500 will have enough memory. My bro Kil's uses a MPC 1000 on stage and it works fine for him.

He did use my 2000XL on stage cuz his 1000 was stolen during a break in, but he since got his machine back. He said the 2000XL worked totally fine for him, cuz you can load up more then 4 programs, but you just need to reassign them to drum 1-4 to make them work.

Any one of the MPC can be used on stage, you just need to work out how.

Or you could just sneakily play a prerecorded track in between loading up the sounds for the next part of the set...but you should look as if your doing something..or you could use it as a moment to reflect on is this music thing really the path you wish to take.

I think the Xl should do you just fine. That is unless your looking to load an incredibly large amount of files. Which in turn can pose a threat.

ways around this:

Like stated before...create a time frame in which you keep the heads entertained, while you scuffle to replace sounds.

Get another used Xl. There are a good amount of heads out there, who in fact use multiple MPs. on stage because of this.

Lastly. Getting a card reader (if your even into this) ... makes load times faster. Which shortens to time it would take, to swap prgms.

Closing out a show with a single Mp is enough work. Multiple mps, is nuts!. lol

I use a 2k classic live, with an SU700. Whenever I'm loading an APS into the 2k, I'm using the su700. It's a pain in the ass, but kinda fun, and forces you to do things a bit differently. You can actually mix and crossfade between your samplers. If you don't want to load files half way through your set, dont use a 2k....

The SU-700 is yamaha's (very sub-par) answer to the MPC... sort of. It makes loopy beats and stuff like that. It's not nearly as powerful as an mpc, but its great for live as it will do real time stretching. So say your MPC is rocking a track at 95bpm. Then you cue up your text track on the SU-700 at 95 bpm. Then you cross fade over to the SU-700, and rock that for a while. Then say your next MPC track is at 102 bpm. You can gradually increase the speed of the SU to 102 without fault. Then bring in the MPC. It's kinda like an MPC meets a turn table. Everyone I know that uses one has a love hate relationship with it. They're so dope, yet so irritating.

My original point was that if you have 2 samplers (MPCs, SU700s SP808 etc) then you can bounce back and forth between them That's how I rock a live show.

Def. Im feeling that idea def. If i have 2 mpcs then that would be cool. . . Just use the mixing desk on stage to crossfade between them.

If i use 2 mpc 2000xl's on stage, it would be great to get them in sync somehow. This would be great so i could have one beat coming in from the other mpc and crossfade it in using my mixer. If one was playing in sync perfectly with the other then it would be like a dj. I dont want to have to hit the play button on the downbeat to get them in sync, i want the midi to do it for me so its perfect. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks, Ben

You can midi sync them, but be careful. If your tracks have any long samples or loops, the timing will eff them all up. That's whay the SU700 is good. You can change the tempo and it will stretch/shorten all your samples in real time.
To see what I mean. Take one of your tracks and just start changing the tempo.

Id make sure that id prepared all my sequences before the show so i wouldnt have to stretch my sequences to much. Also. i normally cut my samples up into small small bits. Is the SU700 really worth having a look at? I have so much new equipment to learn for my live show, is the SU700 going to be easy to learn?

You can pick them up for retarded cheap (250-500) depending on what it's got in it. They're a totally different way of programming than an MPC. It works by making tonnes of loops, and you sequence by automating which loops are muted, and which are playing. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but they really are dope live boxes. I hate mine, but I can't get rid of it, because it's too good for my live show. Don't even bother if it doesn't have SCSI though.

Hey. I got my new mpc 2000xl today. Im just about to order a new multicard reader for it so they both have one and i will also update the OS to 1.72 i think it is? I want to know if you would give me a few pointers to how to get these 2 mpcs working together as one, in sync etc?

My idea is to have a 4 channel mixer, with my decks in 2 channels and my mpcs in the others. I want to be able to fade inbetween tracks on my mpcs, whilst in sync, kind of like a dj, but just with mpcs. I want to have different tracks from my album on each mpc and move back and forth between them.

Could you give me any pointers/advice please?
