Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By thebasement Wed Oct 03, 2007 4:22 am
I have an Akai MPC2000 (not the XL), and a PC running Windows XP Professional.

Basically what I want to know is what steps and purchases would I have to make to interface the 2 machines together. My friend told me that I need to get a hard drive put into the MPC, but I went to Guitar Center and the salesman gave me the run around and basically tried to talk me into buying $3000 worth of equipment.

I am brand new to producing with no training so I'm not sure of the ropes as far as hardware needed in order to get what I'm trying to do done.

ANY insight as to what I can do here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.

you'll need to get an interface with midi in and out adn as many inputs as you need to record your beats. you can use th emidi to sync to which ever program you are planning on using. you can spend anything from 199 to 2500. depends on what you need. i'd check out the m-audio sit if i were you for starting out. they aren' tthat bad. aight let us know wha you choose. aight peace

here ya go blud

M-Audio Firewire 410 Mobile Recording Interface
It's called 410 cuz there are 4 ins and 10 outs with preamps.

This package includes HD202 headphones, 2 mic cables and 2 instrument cables.

Get yourself a pair of midi cables from sweetwater.com (cheap, and free shipping).

This box has audio inputs and midi in/out. Dunno how many outs you got on ur machine but this will definitely handle stereo outs from the MPC. You can handle syncing with software with those midi in and outs.

How much does it cost? Brand new is $300, free shipping.

If you need more inputs, think about a second hand MOTU 828 classic or MKII. Tons of in/out but you'll need a seperate midi box I think. Get a cheap midi man 2x2 or 4x4. Ebay?

I'm thinkin about upgrading my M-Audio Firewire Solo for one of these.

Anyway, good luck.

Actually, as of yesterday the MPC is only compatible with the IBM PS/2 30

No problem. By the way, you will probably want to go ahead and pick up a second set of instrument cables. You'll want to have 2 going in and 2 going out of both the MPC and the 410.
