What do you mean by master and single and how can you get to this. I can't find this in the manual. I know this is an old topic, but I just got an XL Studio Plus off of Ebay and I'm having the exact same problem. I put in a disk and the drive whirs up and stays whirring for about 10 minutes, but my xl still says "no floppy device." This is very frustrating and any help would be apppreciated. If it's any consolation, I installed the 32 mb ram and it appeared that everything was connected fine. Please don't tell me this is my second broken MPC, cuz if it is I'm about to throw it out the window:evil:

On the back of the ZIp there are settings for MASTER, MASTER no slave present, SINGLE. Choose different settings ie. Single or Master no slave present.

I've opened the machine up for like the 30th time since I got it, and it doesn't even have any switches. This is some bulllsh*t. Ever since I started f*ckin with MPC's they been nothin but trouble. If anybody want an xl studio plus with max ram and a busted ass zip, come holla at me.

Maybe you have a parallel drive, a parallel drive will no work no matter what you do to it.
There's no jumpers on the back of the drive AT ALL? Wierd indeed..

I contacted the guy that sold it to me and he says the zip worked just fine for him. One of the chords probably got knocked loose during shipping. Sure enough, after fiddling and jiggling the connectors for like the 100th time, it finally showed up as an atapi device, finally! These are neat little machines, but I fear soon they will be going the way of the ASR-10 with little customer support the way Akai is looking. I'm probably going to go the way of the Roland MV-whatever's out if I ever get a new sampler in the future. We all know Roland's not going anywhere for a while.
