tsig question

Why is it when in 8/4 the metronome counts in 8 clicks before recording starts, but when I'm in 8/8 it only counts 4 clicks before recording? And how come when I'm in 8/4 the bassline I thought would be timed perfect comes off short with a few beats or bars left to go??

Set your machine to QUANTIZE events. Also, where exactly did you find the 8/4 signature? Cause as far as I know there are only 8,8/3,16,16/3,32,32/3.

isnt 8/8 the same as 4/4?

and what mpc r u using that u have an 8/4 option?

I'm using the XL. On Tsig press open window. Then the change Tsig appears. Use the data wheel to scroll through the different Tsigs. I can't explain real well on how they are different but in 8/8 theres 8 bars and 8 beats

8/8 means that there are 8 eighth notes in each measure

4/4 is 4 quarter notes in each measure


it has nothing to do with the amount of bars

Wow I actually know the answer to this one, but I'm so used to posting useless information that I might just do that anyway.


just kidding, the metronome is always in quarter notes. So if you are 8/8, there is 8 eighth notes per measure, equal to 4 quarters, so you will hear 4 clicks. Try 5/8, you will hear 3 clicks and the sequence starts halfway in the middle of the beat!
