IDE Flash disk

anybody thought about trying one of these.

i know the ide will only support removable media like the mcd or zip drives. but technically this is a removable drive. ill let you all know how it works out. it seems better than the 8mb flashrom that is way over priced.

That would be cool to have an internal flash drive like that. But you wouldn't be able to use a floppy or a Zip drive if installed.

It ain't gonna work

floppy uses a different port than the ide. and i use a scsi zip and internal hdd. so my ide port is open. the iDoc uses firmware and no drivers so there actually is a good chance that it will work. and if the F\W isnt compatible. im going to try to flash it with something different.

can you use the ide and floppy ports at the same time? or does one cancel out the other?

this wont be better than the flash ROM, just get a card reader and stop being a tight ass. 128mb is a pretty lame ammoutn of space for somehing your going to have locked away inside the case. The loading times will sill b the same as with all the other connections. the flashROM sounds are there instantly as soon as the Os loads, so its a different kettle of fish.

not really. you can set it to auto load from any device that is conected. including the floppy. and since the flash rom is only 8mb and this is 128mb i can leave just my basic kits in it and not sweat the hdd. and im not a cheap ass. i have 2 card drives and an internal hdd.
everybody on this forum always starts in about the flash drive. this is for a different reason than what the card drive offers. really it just adresses something that akai was stupid to leave off in the first place. flash rom. so while your fumbling your flash cards just to load your basic kits mine will already be on there.

Hmmm, so what you're actually suggesting here is that you're gonna use it like the Flash Rom right? Well, the FR is great because it holds your previous session. If you want to start with your fav kit just mount an internal 9,1GB HD. Then you can always wait for eternity until it loads all this stuff. As far as the legendary FR option, I don't think it would work like that.

it still needs power to operate it. Here is a 256MB Idoc:

i already have an internal hdd. and it loads faster than my partners fc drive. but as long as i save to the idoc before i turn off the mpc i can set it to auto load back from that drive when i turn it on.

I think the MPC will still won't recognize it as being a removable drive in an IDE slot.
Just like when the MPC doesn't "see" an IDE hard drive when you hook one up internally. Same concept.
But who knows... take chance on it and let us know.

doesnt see it. just like a hard drive. im going to try and flash the firmware on it with one from a cf drive. im really going to decompile both f\w's and see if i can merge some code into the idocs firmware to make it work. its a long shot but what the hell!

Thanks...I wouldn't put too much work into it, it would've been a nice option if it worked right away.
