Thinking about gettin a mpc2000

Whats up everyone Im pretty interested in purchasing a MPC2000 . a buddy of mines freind is sellin his for 300 bucks, it needs 2 pads but im sure u have to buy a whole set. My question is there anything i should look for when buyin a machine this old? I also have a MPC1000 which i love , but i always wanted a 2000 and i thought this was a pretty decent price? any help is appreicated.

Make sure the record in works good and the stereo outs work and the floppy still works & has os disk.

seems like a deal man the os disk isnt a huge deal cuz u can get one free but he should have it just to test it, make sure the cursor works because i know they can get faulty and a pad set will cost u around 20-25 bucks

not to familar with a OS Disk.. I will def ask and see, what else would i need to use this? do i need a zip drive or sumthing else??

a zip drive is for storage you dont nessesarly need one you can use floppys...they both are to store your samples, programs, os, sequences, etc....a zip disk can hold up to 7 floppys worth of data i heard, i personally use floppys but im getting a jaz drive (which is like zip sorta), you should also start reading the manual now before you get it so you know what your doing when u do get it, read up on sampling and creating programs, sequences, chopping samples, panning, quantization.. \

if its just the pads its $20. but if its the sensors, then its more like$70. and since you have a 1000 your probably familiar with it. just test it to make sure everything works decent. the cursor is something you should really check though. if thats bad youll most likely have to do a little soldering to fix it.

is it a hard transition froma 1000 to 2000?

the 1000 is prolly easier to chop with. the main screen is pretty similar the pads on the 2000 are bigger and you can bang on em harder than the 1000. i think the things lacking on the 2000 is timestrech and some sort of auto chop other than that its a beast.

Let's just say that when ur working with a 2000, you are working. No automatic zone chopping, no autochromatic functions (16 levels works for me), timestretching is tedious (involves chopping samples into many, many, many pieces), and you can only use one program at a time (this truly sucks but I work with it). THe work pays off though...

I would check for the memory, drive, the pads, buttons, ins/outs, and the screen. If the screen is not good it will soon be gone.

It's probably the sensors. The pads themselves dont go. They're just rubber. If you're not getting a note, it the sensor. The biggest thing is make sure the ins and outs are good. The screen is bright, and the floppy drive works.
Also don't buy it if it's covered in blood and excrement. That's bad.

A 100MB Zip disk can hold almost *70* floppies worth of data, not 7.
