ok this freaked the shit out of me

i was in step edit. i correct something. then when its done i puch play start and all of a sudden this screen comes up with a million numbers and letters. there was not one square on the entire screen that didnt have a number or letter occupying it. it seemed to be all codes. i was able to move the curser from number to number and rotate the data wheel. turning the data wheel not only affected the highlighted number but it actually affected everyhting on the screen. there were also some option bars down the bottom ( i cant remember what they were lables as) and when i selected them it just went to another screen filled with number n shit

i could not get out of this using the main screen button or anything so i was forced to restart the mpc2kxl.

i recentely installed the OS

what the **** happened?

You could edit it? You might be onto somethin.
Try hitting SHIFT+5 to got trim then SHIFT + 1 while in trim. I think thats the screen you saw, but you can't edit the data. Tell me if its it. I think you might be able to do some crazy ish if you can edit this data. I gonna screw with step now.

You saw the debug screen that pops up after an untrapped error.

I can read it, but I am a programmer.

I also had the problem two times now. One time it even happened in a live situation...
A guy of Akai told me that I could have a problem with my scsi device (zip 100). And he told me to get the newest OS. I did this, but I wonder if this problem is solved now...

Re - Boot...!!!!

Do it all over again.... Do it in a different order to the first time so you don't recreate the error again...

I once had a corrupt EFX settings that stuffed my whole program everytime, without fail... Had to re-do the whole thing... I find a Corrupt Program or Seq is the cause of the majority of my Crashes, it just stuffs up the Memory space good.

I find its much like troubleshooting a PC! Remember the MPC is 1980's technology not Windows XP, its gonna crash on you if you don't treat it like a baby..!!!

Stop the Sequence reqularily to give it a rest... Save as much as you can...! Reboot reqularily to flush out the memory....Don't move too fast between windows if your finding its crashing alot.... Use your head and a process of illimination to find what your doing when these errors are occuring and do it differently... And finally, if you have cheap memory, get the AKAI memory. Consider your Memory may be bad or old... Re-seat your memory, Get a new stick to test with...

Good Luck all
