What do I need to switch from a zip to a floppy drive?

Yes that's right, I need to temporarily replace my zip drive in my MPC with a floppy drive so I can update the firmware on my XL (in an attempt to get a card reader working). When I bought it, the zip was already installed so I don't have the previous cables that were in there with the original floppy. I think I have the correct power cable but not the ribbon one. Should it connect to the same port as the zip is?

In fact, if anyone has such cables lying around since they've upgraded which they no longer need then please get in touch.

if you have atapi zip installed then all you need is to find a proper floppy drive.

Maybe I'm reading your question wrong but wouldn't it be easier to transfer the file from the floppy to a zip on an old pc?

Yeah but I don't have a zip drive on my PC, nor do I know anyone with one.

I took an old floppy drive out of my pc and it has a completely different ribbon connector to what my internal (ATAPI?) zip drive has.

I suppose the alternative is to pick up a USB zip drive for my pc but I don't really want to have to buy one just for the sake of updating the OS.

You can get a parallel zip drive for cheap. They come in handy for transferring files back and forth to the computer too.

I have a SCSI external zip but only a weird cable for hooking it up to a EMU sampler. Can I use a standard parallel printer cable to connect it to my pc or will I have to have a SCSI card on my pc?

Yeah your computer has to have a SCSI card in it.
