Taking One Shot Open Drums

I was just wonderin how yall go about doin this...say its not a drum loop its just one open drum. Do yall just sample the loop that its found in, chop the drum out save it then purge all the rest of the samples or wat? Just curious of a fast and easy way to take one shots.

i sample the drum and then trim all the extra stuff i dont need then save the drum
