Disk read error on my MPC 2000xl

Hello guys. Check it out: I just purchased an MPC from a guy... 2000xl w/ 8 outs, max ram... The guy gave me a CF card with some sounds on it. He put the card in the MPC 500 in the store, and it worked... he was letting me listen to the sounds on the card (he works at Guitar center). So when I got home with my MPC, when I turn on the MPC with the CF card in it, I get a "disk read error." I didn't get the sounds to work at all... am I doing something wrong? How do I load the sounds, and how could I fix this problem?
