Bass

What's up all my MPers....

New to the MPC 2000xl and have been doing quite a bit of research on the net before I get my MPC. The main reason i got the MPC is to up my sound quality..... before I get it i want to educate myself on the low end theory that I've been hearing about.

I need that bass.... Drums are hard snares are crisp and beat is dope.... but I need that low end bass....

Any tips or tricks that I should consider? Does 16 levels have anything to do with this??? please help!

try filtering out the hi's of ur sample.
or buy a keboard/controller and bang out ur own bass lines.
16 levels doesnt have anytrhing ot do with it.

Sorry if this seems dumb.... but i don't actually have the MP in my posession yet.... but does the MPC have a low pass filter included...

I can also hook up my sp-404 and filter through that.

Any sythn sounds that you may reccommend?

Filter and play with the resonance. If you isolate one note and filter it you could use the 16 level to play a bassline. Most of the time the samples sound kinda weird if you tune it up or down more than a couple of semitones(levels) though. Course I have been known to drop a sample down by an octave or even two.

Yeah, the 2kxl has a LPF with resonance in the program parameters. It sounds fairly warm. I've never heard the sp404 low pass so I couldn't tell you which is better. Sine bass with some distortion can be very useful as far as synth bass samples go.
