recording multiple sounds

for some reson when i record, lets say a violin, and i want that violin playing in different octives on the same track, its sounds good (sometimes) but after the recording during playback, its like i never pressed the damn keys. this has me very vexed..please help.

If your recoding the pass on the same track, the MPC has to be in over dub mode otherwise you will be recording OVER what you jus did. Better to put the over dub on a seperate track to give u more control -

I know exactly what you're talking about. Even when it is on overdub sometimes the note doesn't play during playback. I think it is a glitch in the 2000xl.

The 2kxl can only play back a certain amount of sounds all at once - 32 voices of Polyphony - So if you have a very complex sequence with multiple sounds hitting at once, its poss the mpc will drop notes if it goes over the 32 voices allowed

so bravo what if i sample something on me e4x sampler that has 128 voice polyphony and then try to play it through midi and record on the mpc? Can it handle that or no?

Lets not get to far ahead of ourselves. A 'sample' is not going to exceed the voice poly of an Mpc on its own. Are you making complex sections, lots of long notes, fxs, swooshes, layered complexed drum patterns etc

For you to consistently be going over 32 voices simultaneously you must be making something really complex - What you making

I had this weird thing with my friend's mpc, which I got for him. When I recorded one track in rec mode, everything was fine. But when I recorded on another track in rec mode, the first track got deleted or something. I had to record everything apart from the first track in overdub mode. I don't know if that's OS related or something but anyways...

some things you can do to make your self more efficient as far as polyphony goes are....make sure all your samples are trimmed...meaing delete the silence at the end of them ( even tho you dont hear anything your polyphony is being used up by silence) . sample sounds that should be in mono in mono (such as bass, kick drums, etc..) keep in mind that stereo samples use 2 voices of polyphony per sample, as opposed to mono sounds using 1 voice of polyphony per sample.
