Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Favorite tempos/feels this week

1. 88 bpm. Perfect mid tempo. Swing at like 51,52. Mmmmmm, tasty.
2. 93 bpm. Swing 62 or 63%. The classic. If you can't make a head nodding beat at 93 then you should throw your mpc out the window.
3. 95 bpm. I used to be all about 96, until I discovered 95. Use 95, your beats will sneak up on people. It's like for the first minute they're brains need to adapt, then by minute two they're like, yeah. Course you need skills to execute this technique effectively. The dalai llama likes this tempo.
4. 83 bpm. Ah, what can I say about 83 bpm. It's a good tempo to use when it's raining. When it's sunny I gotta stick with 88 and above.

Out of interest...R u swinging the whole drum pattern or just individual parts, ie: hats?

you can do it either way to alter the feel a little bit.

Where do you put your notes???

since I rarely use those tempo's I tried it out.

88 was OK, a bit slow and the swing at that tempo feels very robotic.

93 good bpm, combines well with the swing, but still, swing is better at higher tempos.

95 I can't **** wit, I had to go to 98, too slo for me bro,

83 was fun, made a rainy day beat even tho it aint rainin.

I tend to use quantize sparingly, unquantized lets me get to my point quicker except when I need that precision and know what I'm after.

118.5 always keeps me happy

Oh yes, dubmunkey, thanks for the info on Logic swing settings. My swing setting for skippy house hats on the MPC is 57% & I never knew why I couldn't quite get them to sound the same in Logic.
