Difficult cursor question. Please help!

I bought my MPC 2000 about a week ago, and since day one I've had issues with the down arrow on the cursor. I called up the guy that sold it to me and he had said that he had the same issue and had always just worked around it. As much as I'm willing to "work around it", there are still menus that I would like to be able to navigate, as well as be able to chop samples into zones (I'm unable to because I can't move the cursor down to create a new name...so it just tells me that the name is already in use). So then today I just got my new cursor I ordered from mpcstuff.com. It is a totally legit cursor and works fine, but then after I installed it I still had the same issue. So after inspecting what exactly the prongs on the cursor are tapping to make it so it has a signal sent out, I realized it most likely doesn't work. (I'm talking about those little tiny cube-shaped objects with a circular piece sticking out). I looked at all the other keys on the mpc and they all have the same piece as well. So I'm now just assuming that it's the wiring or something on the mpc? I'm not sure what I should do to fix it. If anyone has any advice on if I can either do it myself by ordering new pieces (which would be nice since my shift key acts kinda funky as well) or if I could just send it to a good pro-audio shop? It's really frustrating working with this thing, I just want to figure out a way to make some beats without a headache!

there called " tact switches " and i have the exact same problem, although its not quite yet as bad. you can order them on ebay, just measure the size and height u want. you will need to de-solder the old one and relace it with a new one, may as well do the whole cursor while your at it.

dude thanks a ton! how are you supposed to de-solder them? i'm assuming i'd have to solder on the new ones then huh?

is there any way to make sure that it's not the wiring? I just think it would suck to either mess up soldering them in, and then have it be an issue with the wiring....OR make a mistake and mess up the circuitry. When i took off the cursor i could still press down on the switches, just nothing would register on the machine, so that's why i figure either its the wiring or the contact on the switch is failing?

BUY DESOLDERING BRAID at any radio shack. What you do is you heat up the old solder and place the braid on top of the old solder (heating up both at the same time and blam it sucks that sht right up but be careful not to burn your board. I just replaced a jog wheel myself (i put a thread somehwere in the 2kxl forum on it) it was a b**ch because i was doing it on the floor and i wasnt able to disconnect the entire board. If you have the 8 outs upgrade its mighty hard to disconnect the entire board as you have to take the upgrade out as well.

may as well do the whole cursor while your at it.
