CDRW drives with MPC2000, XL, 3000 and all other Akais

I read on one of the faq thingys on this site that the MPCs wont take any kind of CDRW, this is wrong. I rang Aribiter UK who handle all Akai's UK support, except for the MPC2000, the guy said he couldnt help with my question of does the 2000 support any CDRW drives. So he told me to put any questions i had in an email which he would forward to his man at Akai japan. Within a day or two i had reveived an Excel database of every Akai samplers compatibility with several CDRW drives. Unfortunatly most dont work, some only load. But two models load and save to cdrw with the 2000, if anyone would like a copy of this Excel database, please feel free to email me and ill forward it to you. My mail addy is [email protected]

Did you not get my email about this? I know you mean well, but as I pointed out in my email reply, the information you have in very much incorrect. Why would Akai keep it such a secret if the MPC2000 could save to CDRW - this would be a fantastic marketing avenue for them.

CD burning software has to be built into the MPC2000 operating system, which it isn't - so saving to CDRW is a complete impossibility.

It would be interesting to find out who this guy from Akai Japan is and why he is spreading false information. Either that or it's simply an error on the spreadsheet (most likely).

The FAQ on the site is correct - MPC2000/XL does not save to CDRW. Sorry!

Do you want to see this database it looks very official. Why wouldnt the mpc wirte rewitables, scsi is quiet a flexible device, all the mpc needs to think is 'write out to scsi' wouldnt the drive then handle the rest of the data? Also yeah why would akai have sent this database to this fellow, bear in mind it doesnt just show cdrw compatibility with the MPC series its shows the results of compatibility tests for EVERY akai sampler. Maybe its just wishful thinking but im inclined to give one of the drives they say load and save a go. Is there somewhere i could post this file for everyone to have a nose at?

No - just like with a computer, you need software (like Easy CD, Nero, etc) to perform the actual burning process - this is something separate to the drive itself and has to be available in the OS of the computer. Honestly, why would Akai not advertise this feature, a feature people have been crying out for since the MPC2000 was created?

I also suggest you contact Akai support on the US site as Aribiter are just UK distributors and don't really know that much tech stuff. David Whittle is head of US support and really knows his stuff - he'll soon set you straight on this.

with compatibility your buddies at akai are actually talking about cdrw's that it can READ cd roms with.

I know tutors on point but it WOULD be cool if they did make it available somehow although , as it's been pointed out before , they probably wont.

The only way I can see burning from the MPC2k/2kxl is if you have a stand alone burner with analog/digital ins. MPC 2k/2kxl has NO burn software in it. Other than that any CDRW drive you try will probably just load and NOT burn.

I can make you an Excel document that states the world is made of cheese and put a nice offical letter head on it also, would you believe that?

Probably not.

If that's the case then go and buy it and if it works tell me. Writing a CD is not the same as saving to floppy disk, it requires software to burn, it's a more complicated process. Buy it if you believe them and let me know how it turns out.
