Bad sound quality problem

I just picked up a 2000XL (blue version, stock model, still in the box and apparently unused) and have been having some serious problems with sound quality when trying to sample.

I have a turntable running through a mixer and then into the MPC.

When I try to monitor/record through the inputs, the sound is slightly distorted and distanced. It sounds like a loose connection.

It sounds the same way through all the outputs, and when recording in through both the left and right inputs.

I've checked and tried with multiple cables - definitely not those. The recording levels don't make any difference either.

I've also tried recording from different sources (CD player, MP3 player etc..) and still have the same distortion/poor sound quality.

It came with a floppy with the standard 2000XL drum set on, those load and play fine with no distortion.

It only has the stock 2MB of memory installed.

So I'm pretty stuck. Anyone have any ideas?

please be a bit more specific...with all your other sources were you going thru the same mixer? maybe post an example of the sound its giving you...that would probably help everyone help you in figuring it out....

Cheers Scarecrow. I seemed to have sorted it, seems like it was a cable issue after all.

Before I was using phono to 3.5mm stereo jack cables, with stereo 1/4" adaptor plugs.

Last night I tried it with a phono to twin mono 1/4" jack plug cable - and it sounds clean.

It says in the manual that both stereo or mono jack plugs can be used so I don't really understand why it didn't work...

But yeah, it's working fine now - thanks anyway though.
