Bank Change Message

hello, i need help, i have a mpc 2000 classic and i use it with a korg triton le. of course the mpc is the sequencer and the trition is the sound module.

now the problem im having, is getting the mpc to recognize the correct bank change on the triton.

for example if im using a sound other than bank a on the triton, say i use an acoustic piano from bank b on track 3 from the triton, still with me?

when i reload my sequence up from my zip, that sound the i choose from bank b on the trition, will still have the correct number that i choose, but it will switch back to bank A., cause bank A is the defualt bank on the trition correct? did i explain this well? if so can someone help me solve this problem.

i know this involves putting the correct lsb and msb numbers in my mpc. can someone explain on how to do this? thanks

you'll have to insert a bank change and pgm change into the track using step edit mode, there is a post on here detailing it. lemme search

You need to probably insert 2 Control Change messages in the beginning of the sequence in step edit mode. These are CC 32 = LSB and CC 0 = MSB , you'll need these (or one of these depending on how the triton stores it's banks) to access the right bank.
Plus you'll need to put in a Program Change message in as well to access the right sound in that bank.
Example : CC 0 = 04
CC 32 = 01
Prg = 121


It's best if you send the messages out in this order : MSB, LSB, Prgm Change

Do you not just set up a 'combi' or 'multi' on the Triton? That's the way I've always had to work from my old M1R through to Access Virus. Makes no sense having a keyboard/synth workstation and using it in 'single' mode. So taking the Virus as an example, I have a multi set up for each each song, with each track within that song matching the MPC tracks, Ch1-16. The actual bank data for each sound on each channel/track is saved on the Virus.

Of course, if you're wanting to switch sounds mid-sequence, *then* you'd need to start programing Bank Change messages.

Yes but without the proper bank messages included in the track sequence the MPC won't send out the data to the "Module" like a Virus or Triton (or any midi device which uses banks).
Of course you could save your banks on all your outboard devices and then recall them each time you want to play the track with the right sounds....but it's quicker to include all the bank messages and program change messages per track so each time you load the sequence from the MPC the sequence plays with all the right sounds... (because the bank and program settings are saved on the mpc)

It depends on your workflow of course, when you have just 2 modules , it's not that big of a deal to get to right bank manually...but when your wall is filled with racks then it could be a bit different story.

yeh i see what your mean, you can just use standard pgm changes to shift thru your multi's, which already have all the patches set out to specific midi channels, and all other settings contained within the one program. no need to go insert bank changes and shit like that. good thing is i only get 1 bank of multi's on my waldorf, so there no need for bank changes anyways.

it would be useful (although tedious) if you wanted to change a few of the patchs in your multi from the sequencer, without having to re-config and save it.
