How hard is it to install the MCD?
All you have to do is uninstall the floppy, then connect the MCD to whatever the floppy was connected to. I do suggest you update the OS to 1.20 before installation. and make sure you have the jumpers(that black peg that came in a baggie with your MCD drive) connected to the two pegs near the ribbon cable. Easy.

Do a google search for the akai OS update. Oh and use the search feature on this site. Its your friend.

The MCD gets connected to the IDE connector NOT to the floppy connector it's physically impossible.
Only upgrade to OS 1.20 if you really need it, and do it once you have your mcd working correctly. There is no use for OS 1.20 unless you want to use 1Gb cf cards without partitioning them and MCD works perfect with OS 1.14.
