mpc+pc

hello

what is the best way to connect you mpc to the pc.
iam trying to using it as a midi controller and to send sounds.

is it possible to do it like this?

put this in your drive to send files from pc to mpc

usb midi in?out
so you can hook it up to your pc

now you can use it as a midi controller and send sounds to pc with the driver right?

Audio and midi can both be sent to a PC and recorded, however, they are seperate.

You would need an audio device to be able to input the audio and a midi device to be able to connect the mpc via midi to the pc.

I assume what you mean you are trying to accomplish here is use the MPC as a controller with some kind of VST, such as Reason, correct?

its not really that i want to record.

but i want to connect my zip disk to the pc to get music from my pc to the mpc.

and ya i want to use it in reason

The only method that works is to have a card reader on your mpc and another for your pc. the mpc does NOT do scsi transfer.
As for midi, the mpc allows you to transfer sound via midi, but its so slow and unreliable as to say that its not worth it. You do know that midi is MAINLY for data NOT audio, right?
I'd spring for a card reader for the mpc and a usb card reader for your pc.

but its not like you use the red drum in reason and then you can save the sound of it on a disk

Just put the sounds you would have opened or used in redrum(giving their wavs) onto a card and load them up in you mpc. If you just want to load them up in redrum, you can use the mpc to trigger and record redrum and reason modules like a reg standalone module. Get at me if you want the long of how to sync reason and the mpc up...

Or you get a ZIP drive for your PC, which would be much cheaper.

Thought some other people getting into reason and the mpc might be curious too...

So basically here's an easy way to set the 2 up.

1.Make sure you have midi going out of your mpc to your interface
and out of your interface to your mpc.
2.Go to reasons preference menu.
3.Go to advanced control. Make sure 'external control:bus a' has your interface selected.
4.Make sure midi clock sync has your interface selected aswell.
5.Next go back to the reason rack. At the top of the rack it will say 'REASON hardware device'. If it's not exposed completely, click the arrow on the top left hand side.
6.Next in the same 'reason hardware' spot click the button called 'ADV. Midi Device'.
7.Now for the mpc to recognize each reason module as a different midi channel go to the green boxes. On each box you can assign one reason module to a different midi channel by clicking the small arrow underneath each one.
8.Now on the mpc go to the midi/sync page.Set it for midi clock and mmc:on.
9.On your tracks select track type:midi and choose a 'ch:1-?'. These channels will correspond to what you set the channels to in reasons adv midi set up.

fasttrackpimp, thanks for that info. I just bought a M-AUDIO MIDISPORT UNO jst so i can use my MPC 2KXL as a controller for Reason.

I didn't have to post a question because I knew it had already been asked. 8)

Sweet. Glad I could help. When I was trying to figure this out I was doing trial and error with the info I got off google and sparq's 1k video.
