MEMORY PROP!!

when i turn my xl on it sometimes dont reconize my memory as a 32 meg it will give me half of the sampling time

i even switched it with some new memory i bought and it does the same thing

and some days it works just fine

Did you install two 16MB SIMMS or just one 32MB SIMM? The two banks only recognize up to 16MB each (hence 2*16=32MB) and then the 2MB onboard is ignored. I would go to a used computer parts store an get a handfull of the SIMMS for a couple dollars before buying them from some place like the Guitar center. They're not worth much these days. I aquired mine second hand back in 2000 and haven't had a problem since. Oh yeah, be sure to blow out the memory slots of any debris before insalling. I ran into a problem once where my MPC played fine for awhile and intermittently the samples would start playing back distorted and staticy...

My bad, I read right past the fact your running an XL model (I have the non XL). I know some heads that the XL and we found that you need to stay away from the 32mb 70ns true paritry Kingston memory. If you get EDO or Fast Page Mode you should be fine. Use only 70 or 60ns SIMMs. Don't use modules designated x36 (parity) or composite (8-chip and single-sided)
