Connecting MPC2000xl to a PC - for storage

Hi there,

my buddy has the MPC2000xl... and no internet connection hence me asking this question He's got himself a SCSI card for his PC and attempted to connect the machine upto it, in an effort to use the PC for storage. It doesn't immediately seem that this is possible, although I'd appreciate anyones experiences regarding such issues. If he grabbed a SCSI drive, connected it to the SCSI card in the PC, could the Akai then use that as storage, or is the only option a ZIP drive or external HDD ?

i dont see why not but you'd probably wanna set up a new druive purley for it...or get an app which will split your c:/ into two separate drives...one for your pc bumpf and the other purley for your mpc...

something in the pc architecture may let you down though....at the moment my scsi hard drive is connected to both my pc and mpc (am doing a mondo sample import) and the mpc recognises folders copied direct from the pc to the scsi drive so in theory it should work but they may be something in the architecture that stops it working...

so my suggestion would be try making a drive up purley for mpc data (maybe try partition wizrd) this is only because when the mpc is connected to the pc you dont want it looking at all the pc files like .exes, .dats...etc...

when you have that sorted make sure the scsi card is connected properly...turn the pc on and then the mpc....

what would i do? its a cop out but i would shell the £30 for the external hard drive....you cant get anything else for so little money that will drastically improve your mpc.....

my suggestion is donot do that... cause one slight mishap will cause alot of trouble for one the mpc and pc can not try to access the drive at the same time it will crash the pc and if your were to do more home work u would discover that the pc only see the first 2 partitions... if you need an external hard drive i can sell y ou a 9gig for like 50 bucks artecom case with seagate inside...but dont do that its alot to remeber cause if your loading from that drive and the pc scans like it does it will cause u some problems.. so be safe than sorry go get a external drive...also if you do try that scsi thing the drive will have to be scsi and on the scsi chain so you might still have to buy a harddrive ..so just buy the external harddrive.....

Great, thanks for all your input guys - it's most appreciated! I'll suggest he grabs a zip drive, it seems a low cost option. strongarmmusic, thanks mate for your scsi driver offer, but we're all the way over the pond in the UK and I imagine shipping is gonna be a real expense; my guess is, that it isn't a viable option. Many, many thanks however!!
