Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi i recently brought an external SCSI cdrom drive. I have this connected in the SCSI chain as well as my zip drive. The mpc seems to recognise that this device is a cdrom, it detects the type of cdrom drive ie Toshiba and model, however every cd i put in comes up with a "type ????" which the manual says is an unformatted or unrecognisable disk type. Not even the mpc sample cd works. Has anyone encountered these problems before? My zip drive seems to work fine. All devices on the bus have unique ids and exclude SCSI id 6. The chain is terminated. And i have also tried another SCSI cdrom drive however the same thing happened... I am running OS 1.14c can someone please help.

Burn your CD's as data.
ISO 9660 (standard CD rom)
Mode 1
ISO level 1. This is 8.3 format so longer names will be auto truncated.

I use Nero btw..
