LCD fades out then sound disappears

randomly, about 1hr after power up the screen light begins to flicker every time I hit a pad as if its the trigger. Next the text starts to fade from the LCD (remains backlit) then my pads become unresponsive or the audio is disappearing. All thats left is a lit blank screen.....next is reboot. Its happened twice. Anyone had this happen?? Overheating? It can get pretty warm in the room.
