Formatting ZIP Disks

For serious man, WTF. First off, Ive been in IT for quite some time, so feel free to lay it on me.

I got a 2000XL, with a floppy

I got an NEC ZIP 100 ATAPI/IDE

I cut the cord in the MPC, put the molex on it. Set zip to master, ran it through the IDE and started up the MPC

looks great.

MPC can see the ZIP, Iomega, and 100MB

MPC can tell when there is no disk inserted. However when the disk is inserted, no files show up.

I've formatted it in FAT32, and tried. FAT16 and tried, and MPC format and tried. no... dice...

Clue? The MPC always displays the disk as MPC format???

I can not find a solid answer on this anywhere. Someone said I Have to format the disk in win98????

come on, that just cant be true.


Can I assume that the ZIP install is fine. And this is a disk/format issue? Others seem to have blatant errors.

PLEASE ADVISE

...I went from floppy to internal mpc zip250 iomega as well. I also had another same model iomega 250 internal zip on my pc, I used to format my zip disks on pc using fat16 and use filenames 8 characters or less, anything longer and mpc will truncate the name to 8 characters causing errors cause your files are then renamed, pgm's, aps's, all's and shyt won't be able to find the old name it was saved with. So after that mpc and pc could read the zip disks just fine. Try another zip disk.

PC fat16 format so that both mpc and pc can read/write to the disks.
That format always said "PC" for me, not "mpc" when loaded into my 2kxl.

yeah i know enough from futzing with a hard drive, that it should be reading PC

anyone got any ideas as to how to blow this disk out?

mpc format unreadable by pc.
pc format fat16 8.3 characters = good for mpc.

do you have any idea why the mpc thinks that its a mpc2000XL formatted disk, even though I JUST formatted it in the pc?

also, i just noticed, that the MPC thinks its a hard drive judging by the little icon...

WTF

FIXED!!


Downloaded IOmega tools for ZIP drives, and formatted. Next time I slid it in the MPC it showed up as PC :-)


Put my .wav's on it, and im golden

I guess the IOmega formatter is doing something that windows doesnt. I was worried too cuz there was no option for Filesystem, but i guess it just went with FAT (16)

Aww man, I forgot about iomega tools, some people used to use that cause no other way would work for them.

I never had that problem though, regular ole win xp fat16 format has always worked for me. Sorry, I forgot. My bad.
