Check this out!
One old dude looked at the MPC and said, "That's one big azz adding machine!"

Last night, I went to the same auction that I told you guys about a while back!
So anyway, as I was checking my list and looking around. I spotted an Akai box
on a pallet with 2 old 15" CRT computer monitors! Curiosity made me look in the
box...and there it was! Looking to be in mint-condition was a MPC-2000! They had
it listed with the monitors as "used office equipment" and bundled together!

I've been going to these auctions for a while and nobody really buys the out-
dated office equipment, if so, it goes for cheap! So I had my fingers crossed
that nobody would know what it was and I'd get it for almost nothing! I don't
know where it came from or who was stupid enough to let it go, but there it was!

When they got to the pallet with the MPC, one guy bid a dollar...and I raised my hand
to bid $5, the auctioneer said will anyone bid $10? Then he said sold for $5bucks!!!
None of the old gents at the auction knew what it really was! One guy did
come up to me and say that he was going to get it for his grandson, but it
didn't work! He told me that before the auction started the people in the
office let him plug it up and when he powered it on the screen was froze!

What he didn't know was...that model had to have a boot disc after you power it
up! I downloaded the boot disc via the Forat website (Thanks MPC forums for the
tip!!). The MPC 2000 is fully-blown with ram and 8bus outs and works fine!
It has a small scratch on the side and the fader/slider knob was missing. I found
an old black fader knob for now and it works like new! Not bad for $5 bucks!!!!!

I was finally at the right place at the right time.....usually I miss out on deals like
this, while all my friends get lucky!

P.S.
My main weapon of choice is the MV-8000, but I had the same MPC 2K from
98-2002 until it was stolen! Now I have both!

Got it home and it kind of worked ok for 10 minutes lol then the voices were intermittent now no sound but the envelopes and filter work as you can make it self oscilate but no sound. I tell you this, when it worked the sound from the sampler sounded soo sooo warm and amazing, the filter sounded ace. The synth sounds are a bi lame
It's a Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000
