MPC 2000xl Sampling static

Ok so im new the the MPC world, just got mine yesterday. I am learning everything on it, one thing i noticed is that, we i try to sample some times i get like alot of static, almost like tv static but more crunchyish or electric. When i press the shift and sample key some times it gets worse some times it clears up... anyone heard of that and what can i do to fix it? i Checked my cables. Dont think thats the issue but Again im new so HEEEELLLLLLLP!

lower your rec gain. if that dont work then you probably have bad ram. pull it out and sample something with just the 2mb onboard to see if it still happens.

Its only got the stock 2mb no upgrades... i did try to turn down the rec volume but that didnt do anything either.. its not a hiss for say but like if you was to maybe ummmm i dunno kinda like if something was grounding but it only does in when im in the sample window... playback and everything seems ok... maybe a little hissy but only with samples taken from some sites i found... I hooked up my Boss dr-202 and took samples off that and the samples came out good... just when your in the window for sampling you sometimes get that static. and it interferes with the recording.. i'll try turning everything down again but shrug... i hope i didnt buy some junk.... maybe thats why it was sold on ebay... But i really dont see that.. its in good condition too... new pads and case too...opened it up to look inside and the only thing i noticed is that it smells like someone was blowing cigarette smoke all in it... well maybe not that bad but a little smelly

Just tried it again no go..I did a test too. I noticed that when it starts to glitch or static like that the levels are measured like sound. i disconnected all the cables except for the power cable. and the levels were still jumping... Again Theres no upgrades to it... even has the standard floppy drive. other then some buttons, pads, and casing... this thing is stock..am i going to have to get it serviced maybe or should I try to install the newer o.s.? 1.14 i got 1.12..... I JUST WANT A WORKING MPC FOR THE LOVE OF GOD... I only had it like 12 hrs any clues ideas? has this happened to anyone ? Again, its like popping static, or like them fireworks that crackle but it'll do like maybe one pop... then be good for a while then do a few pops.. then alot like unbelieveable alot.. but when i hit shift and 4(sample) it'll either get worse or better or the same... sometimes i gotta exit the sample screen then go back in....????????????????????????????????????

when your in the sample screen "trim" is it set to digi or analog input? when mine is set to digital and i dont have a digi source hooked up it makes a static crackle sound too. doesnt do it when there is a source hooked up. and never does it on analog. but it sounds like your loading samples and not sampleing direct? so maybe check that. switch the sample input

well its set to analog and I sampled from both another drum machine, and my turn table...

try the os update just to rule out that as a possibility. smoke can damage electronics but it usually takes quite a bit to make that happen. if some contact switches have been changed then excessive heat could have done some damage. but again, it would have had to be someone with no knowledge of soldering to screw that up that bad. start with the o.s. though. you can go up to the latest 1.2 with no probs. i ran it long ago with my floppy and had no issues.

ok, Well i upgraded the OS to 1.14, but i'll try the 1.20 next and see. if not maybe i need to service it "sigh" i just bought it too...I talked with someone at Akai thats what they told me... I'm wondering if someone local could do the job, instead of sending it to Cali or Jersey. They told me two places to send it i think one was VST, and the other i forget now but.. it'll cost me some loot im guessing.... WHY MEEEEEE... but first VER. 1.20 ............. thanks for your help dude.

What area of the country are you in? There are other places you could send it as well, but those are the two MAIN akai service centers

Are you sampling from a computer? If so you are most likely eqperiencing a ground loop issue.
Couldn't be arsed reading all this but seeing as you sampled your boss without any problems then my guess would be that this gay noise is from your pc, if it's a laptop remove the power supply and run it on battery and the buzz/interferance will go away.

Actually I had problems sampling anything. even sampling nothing, when I'm in the sampling screen i get the static with nothing connected to the MPC... i can hit shift and the sample key(4) to kinda reset the screen and some times it takes a few times to get it done but sometimes i gotta go to the main screen and then get back into the sampling screen

So I add 32Mb memory upgrade, and it seems to have kinda fixed itself? It didnt have memory in it before other the the stock 2mb.... But anywho I installed gold tipped 32mb memory and the static only comes every now and then... VST told me it sounds like a analog-to-digital converter failure, or as they put it a/d failure.. But I think i can hold off for a bit. untill i get some $$$, i think i might be able to do the repair my self if i could find a service manual for the MPC2000xl and of course the converter... anyone care to help?


Just Found out A bit more about this problem.. The ADC Failure is from the AK5340 chip. VST will repair this for a total of $215...$50 for the chip,$65/hr 2.5 hrs to work it... I can fix it if I could find that stupid chip... But I can only buy it in bulk.. Does anyone know where I could find that chip at? VST wont sell it...
