Many, many Problems

Hey again guys - more complicated questions for my busted MPC purchase.

1) When I load, for example, a snare hit to pad A01, I can preview it by pressing F3. Using only headphones, and no main out jacks, with the MPC turned up all the way, I can only hear it very faintly in the headphones. I assign the sound to that pad, and when I return to the main screen, no sound comes from the pad, not even a faint one like when I preview it w/ F3, which pisses me off. Am I loading it incorrectly or something? This also ties into the next problem.

2) Problem number 1 made me think that perhaps the pads weren't working. So, just to test it I opened a new window to rename a track. It says, "use jog wheel, or press the PADS." So, I press the pads. Nothing. I use the jog wheel, the letter changes like it should while renaming, obviously. Are my pads not working?

3) When I go to record, just to test if the snare sound I loaded works, even though I can't HEAR IT (AAAUGH!!), I don't hear the metronome, or the snare. When I go to play it back through the 8 outs (which are assigned, by the way), I get nothing.

I know that the main outs need to be fixed, the guy told me that when I bought it. But.. could the pads be broken also?

hit SHIFT + 5, then SHIFT + F1 (not 1.... hit F1)

then go to MEMCHK, then PADCHK

from there you can see if your pads are working. 127 being the most velocity.

... i don't think the pads work, nothing happens when i press them while in padchk.

i have the same problem with mine.........i just purchased some new pad sensors and i am praying that that should solve the problem

I found few topics from these forums with similar damages on mpc.

I bought an 8-out from my friend yesterday and screwed it in.

When i turned my mpc on and tried the outputs on 8 out they were all just givin a white noise peak and the stereo outs were mute. There were no sound, only a slight sound when i turned the volume up all the way and plugged my headphones on mpc.

So what did there go wrong? I took the 8-out away from my mpc, but I still have the same issue. And by the way pads wen't broke too at the same time with this 8-out installation. I did the installation like they said on the manual.

Before this my mpc 2000xl worked perfectly.

Any ideas what to do?

I tried to install the mpc operating system again, but this didn't help.

So, now my mpc is totally messed up and I don't know what to do.

Any help?

CHeck your memory I know it sounds weird but it might of went bad it has happen to 2 of my friends when they changed there 8 outs

I took another look on my mpc and I found a broken resistor. So somekind of a grounding problem or something with my installation. Shit.

You can solder it back but you need a new resistor first.

I replaced the resistor, but I still have the same problems...

What's next? Sell this to junkyard and buy a new one?

You probably inserted the ribbon cable the wrong way for the 8-outs. Thats what I did and burned up the resistor and pad sensors. Luckily the 8-outs was still good but I had to send it off to Cali to get fixed.

I thought that the ribbon cable can be inserted only one way?

I fixed the resistor, are you sure that i can get it fixed if i order the pad sensors?

Cos I still have the problems with the outputs after changing the resistor. So I was just wondering that does the pad sensors affect to the outputs too?

Yeah they could I guess being that you assign a pad to the out.

my bad. I installed a wrong resistor there and that's why it didn't work. Today i put there the right resistor 4,7 ohms / 1w and now everything works fine.

One little problem there is still. As I was just trying to do everything to get my mpc working I tried to install the os again. So now the mpc keeps asking for the mpc2000xl disket every time i turn the mpc on. I have the disket inside and it loads the os and works fine after loading it. But I think there should be a way to store the os into mpc, so that it won't ask for the disket every time? Does anyone know how to install the os properly?
