akai s series compatibility

hey
i own a s900 with tons of disks, i may scoop a cheap s1100.
will the s1100 be able to read the s900 floppy disks ?

is the s1100 even the same type of floppy?

id guess it can.....my s1000 can load my s950 disks.....it converts them to 16 bit as part of the load process

S3000XL, S3200XL, Remix 16, S01 and Kurzweil K2000s & K2500s.

I dont doubt the files are compatible.. what I meant was isn't one double density and one hi density? and how interchangeable are the two going back and forth. I could be wrong though...

Most of them reads both.
My s950 doesn't make any difference between a dd and hd floppy disk

However, my s3000xl won't read s900/s950 disks.

what O.S. do you have on your S3000XL?
i have O.S. 2.0 here and it definitely reads s900, s950 floppies

i can make a copy on floppy for you if u need it

I have OS version 1.5. Does it has to do with the OS? I was suprised that my s3kxl wasn't able to load any of my s950 disks, because at that moment I was 100% sure I read somewhere it was possible. But never took time to go and check on that. If u could send my a copy that would be awesome.

s950 disks load right up in the s1100. i have both here.

my 3000xl loads up s950 disks on os 1.5
ive done it on accident so many times

Going to try it again when I get home.

But maybe it's just my s950's diskdrive. I bought a replacement at VST and for some reason it only writes up to 50% of the floppy disk's availible memory. So I think it may not be functioning correctly.

i have been digging further (just net stuff, did not check by myself yet)
s950 reads s900 AND s1000 disks
s950 and s1000/2000/3000/etc read s900 disks with late OS
kurzweil k2000/2500 read s900/s950/s1000/etc disks

will check by myself asa i scoop the s1000...

i could be wrong but i think you need os 4.4 on the s1100 to read s3xxx disks

would be great if there was a resource which listed all the differece between akai samples O.S. versions

it's just missing a compatibility table between the different samplers and mpc's
