8 outputs and mackie mixer

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a mixer, surely a mackie 1402 VLZ Pro, but i've got a question about : i've got a akai s950 with 8 mono outputs, but the mackie has only 6 mono inputs plus 4 stereo ins. Is there any problems? How can i plug everything together ? What will i loose compared to a console with 8 mono inputs ? Thanksss

that mixer should have more than 6 channels so you should be fine. plug 1-6 into the 6 mono channels and if there is 2 stereo channels left plug 7 into one of them and 8 in the other. use the mono in on each channel (left i think) you might have to adjust the pan on the 2 stereo channels to get the sounds centered. anyways. what are you recording into? like what is the mackie going to be plugged into. unless you are going to be recording to a source that will let you record 8 channels at once (which that mackie will not output individually anyways) then it makes no difference. explain the setup and what you are trying to do a little better.

follow up questions.... are you trying to get a better recording setup going? if so what are you going to be recording to? (adat, computer, etc)
also do you have any other equipment or instruements you would be recording (guitars, synths, rappers, singers, anything)

Well i've got the s950 with the 8 outs, the mpc with standart out (left and right) and an expender (virus a) with one stereo out. As i'll use all this gear, i need a bigger mixer than my poor gemini djs mixer (only 2 voices). I'd like to make my whole song with this setup, and then record track by track in cubase (soundcard terratec dmw6 fire, one stereo input rca). What do you think about? Thankss anyway

i just wanted to make sure you understand you will still have to record each track 1 at a time into the computer. anyways i have the behringer eurorack 1604 mixer and i love it. i dont know how it compares to that mackie feature-wise, but it would accomodate all your gear. plus has an alt3/4 bus which is essential for recording into the computer. see with alt3/4 it has an extra set of outputs (which i connect to my computer). anything i mute/alt3/4 on the mixer automatically gets its signal routed into the computer so i can record it, but i can still monitor that channel with all of my stuff playing at the same time. for example you could record the mpc beats but alt3/4ing the mpc channel and still have all your gear playing through the mixer and hear it all together at once while you record 1 track at a time.

You can never have too many inputs , I too have the DMX 6Fire 24/96.
I just got a Behringer 2442a a 24 channel 4bus Stereo mixer and i fits in well with my setup MPC2K w 8 out various keyboards to include Triton w 6 out. I send all this out to a digital recorder via 4 bus. But you could use to send main mix to Stereo in on TerraTec. BTW This Mixer cost me about $519 US http://www.behringer.com/02_products/pr ... if he does all his sequencing on the mpc he can just run song mode and record the beat to one or two tracks in Cubase and master it in there.

werd. I got a nice eurorack and I borrowed my friends mackie, the mackie is mad clean, super quiet, but if you keep the behringer's levels respectable its not noticable.

I'd listen to both, dont just cop mackie cuz its the hotness, look at your rig and how you wanna expand it in the future, for example, I plan on copping a trinity soon, so I would rather spend the $$$$ on the trinity and cop the behringer, and understand that I cant record as "hot" as with a mackie, so I'll have to fix that in the mix/eq phase, I havent had any problems and that 200 bux difference I can use to go towards a trinity or maybe use it to buy a new mic or something.

folks who diss behringer have never spent the time to try it out and work around its limitations. they are nice, and the best mixer for the $$$$$.
hell I remeber when stanton dj mixers hit and mad heads said vestax will always be better. two years later, stanton is making some heat, forcing vestax to change distributors and drop prices. not to mention the samurai series flop was largely to do with the quality of the other mixers on the market at the time.

Thanks! i'll check that. But i've heard that mackie mixers sounds very good, better than behringer.... How are the eqs on behringers?
Right now, with my little setup i've got everything i need. Latter, i'll look for good monitoring speakers

Well the Specs on the Mackie are much better , you get what you pay for.
The behringer 2442 cost me $519 Vs the Mackie 244VLZPRO which will run you $2000 + .

I might get a mackie one day ,but for now the Behringer is fine. The EQ is fine , has a 3 band EQ + Mid range Freq shift and Lo cut (75hz) . This is alot of Mixer for your money. Behringer has based the designs on the Mackies (they don't care about lawsuits ) so its got a lot of similar features
talkback mic built in , 12v lamp connector lot of nice pro features.

For the money you spend , it just does the job. Did I say 24 channels for $519 , Yes i did.
