Digital Mixers - Automation recall w/ the MPC/01V questions.

cool TCHARLZ, thanks a lot. i dont know why it doesnt send it back. mayby if you loaded the midi file into the mpc4000, you can kinda see whats going on.

I am not sure why one would want to send midi automation data externally since the 01V (at least the one I use) can record the automation internally.

Be sure to check out the effects on 01V. They can be pretty good. I usually record 8 tracks at a time through it. Recordings are dry but we monitor back with effects to hear what they sound like. Then we bounce the tracks back through the 01V for effects. It is a pretty nice system, but really overkill for most small studios.

Scene memory is likely to get used more than anything else.

MPC3000, no disrespect but no 01v can record automation internally, this was one of the cost cutting factors they used to get the price down.
The 03D had internal automation and the AW4416 had "automix" and templates for PT, Nuendo, etc
It can do snapshot and you can get it to change snapshots but you have to use an external device to record the movements of faders, knobs etc to get automation
My first 01v was the 5th one Yamaha shipped and then I added a second one. In all that time since then the only change they made was a user firmware update that would allow the 01v to work with mLan.

ProTools isn't transmitting the data that's why the faders don't follow the screen.
Again, this is why controllers use HUI emulation to control PT.
The problem is that Digidesign uses a form of MIDI control messages but it's written into a profile which contains the protocol info necessary for the control.
In a simplier way Pro Tools has to be told how to communicate based on who the profile says it's communicating to.
The JL Cooper that you try to emulate with the 01v was a very simple, cheap limited controller so it only has a few capable control parameters.
If you want a controller their are some cost effective options, if you want a mixer and controller the newer mixers come prepared to be controllers as well.
