Have you ever been in a slump??I think I may have too much gear.
Back in the Day, like 93 when this whole thing started for me (producing) I had a ASR 10 some floppys, Record and CD player. Back then it was much more fun, searching for the right sounds, and loops that I had to find to make a hot track stand out. You know.
But today, I got all this gear and I swear the easier things are the worse things get. Sometimes when I'm searching for a sound on one of the Modules I get lost and distracted. Sometimes I wish I went back to that ASR 10 and some records. I think Im gonna sell everything and get a ASR and a record player, and buy a sh&^load of records. Keep the 4k though.
I dont know, just stressin out a bit.
Alright peace.

Walk away from it and listen to some old music. Don't pressure yourself, you should be more "intrigued" IMO since you have new gear. But if your gear seems to be the catalyst, only which you will know, then get rid of it. IMO I would keep and walk away. When you can't create, look for sounds and create programs. That's what I do when I get the "block" or I will read something.

What upsets me most is when I'm in a mood to create something, but nothings workin out...

My solution is to walk away from all current music... For real cause when I'm in a slump, Listening to Madlib or RJD2 doesn't help cause it just seems so easy when you hear that sh*t... Sometimes you can feel like your settin the bar too high...

I go back and listen to old Funk and Psychadelic Rock Albums... Usually good inspiration comes from there... Even if there isn't a sample to use... Just listenin to how the music is made and comes together is inspiration for me...

I feel the same way. I just started making beats a little over a month ago and I feel I may be trying to hard and trying to go too fast. I get inspired/motivated listening to other producers' shit and then get distracted and tired most of the time when I am looking for sounds.

I've found that just leaving everything alone and doing other stuff for a while helps me.

Yea I got like that when I first started... To put things in perspective... Just take into account that many of the people you look up to as producers have been doin this for 20 years or more... I mean you figure people like Dr. Dre, Premier, Pete Rock, Madlib, and so on... They had to have been workin on it for years before they became famous... And most of the people I've named have been famous for almost 20 years now... Always try your hardest, but don't get discouraged if something takes you a while to learn... Figure that even Dr. Dre learns something new everyday... This is always a learning experience...

"The less gear, the more creativity." It will become an expression! ;)
"Finding the right sounds".. eh can be a biaatch!

If you got stuck and there seems to be zero creativity, stop producing for some weeks. Even if you feel itchy again. Just leave your expensive gear sitting there. :) Do some other shit. Take your girl out (or take the guys out, girls :P ), or give your wheels of steel some more attention ;) or try collecting stamps

Also, listen to music you normally never listen to! Put on the radio for a change.

Indeed! Learning music is an endless proces. Even fondly remembered Ray Charles learned some new tricks in his old days. ;)

yo, i havent made a beat in 2 weeks.......i felt bad at first, but then im gettin focused, im still working on music stuff, like copyright, some beat selling contracts, my website, logos...just planning in general. Im also listening and anylyzing.

I feel ya on the asr thing.....simplicity is best. Id keep the 4k, and jsut buy a shit load of records....forget about anything else, except the needle.
Think about it, its all you need. unlimited sounds, and a tool to get you where you need.
