mac or pc, tastes great or less filling?

time has come for me to get a pc dedicated to music, so now i ask the age old question, mac or pc? now, granted, your posts arent really gonna make my choice for me, i just wanna see some outside info on the two mainly on the mac.

i already know what a pc can do, but why is apple industry standard? my main questioin i guess is, what can an apple do that a pc cant, if anything (besides ring out your wallet)

the joint im thinkin of is an emac 1.25 ghz g4, 512 in the ram dept., with a 40 gb hard drive (i already have an external that i will use for audio files)

I wish I could tell you.. The school I'll be goin to uses all Macs, but I use PC... I'm curious about this myself... Luckily they use ProTools and you can save in a format that either accepts if I'm not mistaken...

The mac OS is rock solid....i've had programs crash on me but never my OS. I'd say that mac in general are just more solid and trustworthy...its got something to do with the kernel system they use in their operatinf system, but also because they're smaller in terms of market share, every mac is built from components that are 110% compatible with it. You never get ram issues or compatibility issues...unless you take stuff over to pc but with OS X that's not really a problem anymore.

I have a PC as well. It's not nearly as reliable. Conks out on me often...then there's the blue screen of death. But one thing for it is that you have a wider choice of music softwware....in particular VST's. But the problem with all these home made VST's is that they're mostly programmed by amateurs and hog CPU and crash yo system.

As for an eMac i wouldn't go that route. It's cheaper but you need to consider buying something that's future proof. Very soon software manufactureres will be optimising their stuff for 64bit computers (the G5 and Athlon64). You should spend more now to make your investment last a little longer. Besides G5's are cheap in europe and America....come to south Africa and see what we have to pay here.

At the moment i'm leaning more towards mac but the thought of having to buy a full rack of VST instruments is KILLING me.

I'm also thinking about uupgrading, and i have the same issue as you so i'm real interested to see what other hombres are gonna be saying.

And therin lies the secret. That's nwhy i do most of my stuff on hardware. because it doesn't crash as often. But if you goiung to delve into computer territory as we all have to today.....mac is the answer.

yeah... people who diss macs usually just don't have one or have never dived into them... I came from pc to mac and haven't gone back to pc ever since.....

a, they are rock solid,

b, they don't crash, mine certainly hasn't,

c, ease of use for filing etc and for installations...

d, most of the good comercial vst's and programs are mac compatible.

If you run Logic audio, it's now made by apple and optimised for macs...

I have a Mac dual G5, before that a Dual 1.25. Before that a 733 quick Silver.
I'm a PC tech by trade and built audio desktops to video editing computers.
3 laptops, and a Compaq evo as well as a Homemade monster for gaming.
Today standards they are both fully capable of handling anything.
Trust me there are good things about both.
The Mac is Rock Solid; the best part about a Mac is you don’t have to mess around with it.
The problem with PC’s is they are too easy to upgrade, available software made so easy that systems are always changing.
Cracked Plug-in, Video Games and internet surfing often leave PC’s buggy.
Macs don’t have to many options, cracked software often doesn’t happen nearly as much; Games are always a year behind PC’s.
I have a Mac because I don’t want to play Tech with it. It’s a Good machine and stays put when I upgrade my Mac I buy a new, sell the old. My PC’s upgrades I go to a show, update the video, processor, and sound whatever. Then I it run through the mud. The PC’s can handle more Plug-ins and are more powerful (despite what people say) But the Mac is more reliable because I DONT F&^% WITH IT!! It lack of compatibility makes it a more stable and reliably resource for me. If your into video games internet browsing and such, get a Mac for a dedicated DAW. If you can control yourself get a tricked out PC. Both in the end will cost about the same.
