Nuendo, Protools, Audition or what?

Ok here's the deal

I've got an MPC, and a fostex vf16 recorder...not the greatest of setups, but I can make recordings...I've got a computer with tons of ram sitting over here collecting dust...

I want to use the computer to edit/finalize tracks...maybe even a little pre-mastering


...I've read all day on the Mbox, and the only benefit I can see in getting it is to have protools software...not worth it

...I hear people talking about Nuendo, but in my searches of the net for it, all I see is the box with a whole bunch of inputs(don't need adat etc.) that I'm not gonna need...

...either way I need something to get from my MP/Fostex into the computer, and a program to edit stuff, and save in (choice of mulitple formats) to take to "the big studio"...so that when I get there it's str8 to the vocal booth, no wasting time converting from one form of audio to another, or tracking beats...I'm tired of these f@cks milking me for my time/money...

...anytime I've been in a "big studio" I'm sitting back about to pull my hair out, trying not to scream at the waste that's happening...

...if I had the money I'd put the equipment in my house, and do it myself from start...get somebody to come in for the mixdown, then to mastering...

I wouldnt really look at using nuendo. It cost a arm and a leg and you can pretty much get teh same thing for half the price in the cubase sx 2. Pro tools le is all mumbo jumbo but its a good thing to have if you plan to transfer you tracks to a larger studio that has the real thing. Every claims this is reason they got pro tools but if you was to take a pole on home many people are really using there pro tools set ups to transfer there projects...pretty much only 25% would say they are. Dont get me wrong pro tools is a good program too, i just hate the good old "Its standard line". Pro tools is a good package if you dont have any software and a need hardware and software package. One thing about pro tool 6 is that it sucks up cpu and many people get a lot of ######erra messages. So if you get pro tools first make sure your computer will be able to run it. Cool Edit pro or audition is a good pick to just track your beats and edit them. I mean like alot people run out to get all this hight price shyt to just track beats. Come on now! My cuzent look at my lil studio and was thinking he needed everything i had to make music. I told him all he would ever need is maybe a good seq/drum machine/ sampler and a keyboard and cdr recorder. I told just make your beats record them and if people like your music they would pay to have your shit recorded cause a hot track is a hot track. So i think Cool edit pro is a good program if all you want to do is track you beats and do some edits. I have a motu and nuendo 2 but using all of this cause im runing a lil company of mines and we are putting out full songs and are tring to get paid off our music. Now if i wasnt doing that i would just pick up a stable tracking program and just call it a day. P.S. dont look at the mbox. Youll grow out of it very soon.

i'm doin serious music too, thought that was implied...I need something that works beyond jus tinkering with flim flam stuff...

...you say don't get the Nuendo, but yet it's what you use, is it that you don't like it? or is it just more than one needs?

Pro-Tools with a Digi002 or cough up a few more credits and get a TDM system - sounds the best with the best editing plus the Plugs you can get for your Pro-Tools rig are second to non

But really - Nuendo, Pro-Tools, Logic, Digital Performer etc can all get the job done -

but keep in mind Pro-Tools is an industry standard for a reason

The big diffences between Nuendo and Cubase are that Nuendo WILL DO EVERYTHING THAT CUBASE WILL DO plus Nuendo offers the ability to get really deep into surround mixing and it allows you to work with video(for scoring films,music videos etc...)I would not pay $1500 for Nuendo if you are doing music only.Just get Cubase SX and be done with it.Both programs run off of the same audio engine(they sound exactly the same).I have Nuendo 2.0 and have only recently started to use it but seeing as how I did'nt pay $1500 for it I'd say it's a pretty good program.

Yea he pretty much beat me too it but my partner and i went half on it cause hes in to scoring films and video, while i needed a good tracking program.

i curently have cubase sx and adobe audition on my comp ,i personally began use cool edit pro a while back so im comfortable with audition, and ive used pro tools at school,i really dont think theres anything special about protools id rather use audition,its practicalcost less and sounds great

anybody mess with sonar?

another advantage nuendo 2 has over cubase sx is that u can trigger multiple vst instruments simultaneously with an mpc in nuendo but only 1 at a time in cubase meaning u can only use 1 vsti. and that sucks.

nuendo is the sht but make sure u have a super-computer otherwise dont even think about it cos it'll give u a heart attack with freezes and crashes.

stick to hardware but if u have to use a computer use it for editting vsti's and some mastering maybe but that's it. i dont know about tracking and mixing its too risky it may die on u.

the whole purpose of it is not to abandon the hardware, but to track and mix, and burn for portablility, and archiving at the crib...

i switched cubase to protools (i got a good deal on it) and i must say, that the fx that come with cubase are total crap compared to protools, sonar and logic. cubase is a very good program overall, minus the fx. you have to get some good vst fx to get the most of it.

Fyi...buddy wasn't answerin emails or nuthing, 2 emails since 7/28 when I paid...
