thats the thing when ever i do drums on software the shit neva grooves or knocks to the same degree as hardware, like ive had the 1k, esx and the sp505 and my drums is always better on those then on reason, live, fl or any other software.

im sure its user error on my part but i get better drum results with hardware so im intrigued with maschine cos that hardware workflow should let me get funky but obviously the a/d outs of any unit do ad a certain ambiance to a drum pattern

Nah. The real MPC60 is dope. The MP60 emulation in Maschine is ass, to me. I'm actually selling my Maschine to a friend who's been harassing me about it since he doesn't have an MPC or anything and I've been using other stuff. I'll still have access to it so I'm cool.

Not sure what that means, but if you go back and read my posts I already have an MPC and never tried to convince any of you sour punks to get Maschine. Instead I pointed out some of it's pros and cons, without bias. I debated for both sides because I don't have my dick stuck in the MIDI IN port of a MPC nor Maschine.

Not everyone who mentioned Maschine on these forums were promoting or dissing it. However, maybe your heads too far up your ass to realize you're full of shit. Maybe read next time, you gear hugging ****. Just playing with you man. No, seriously, I kid.

I use Live too but I have Launchpad next to my Maschine instead because Maschine actually is a better Live controller if you already have Launchpad. I didn't like that APC was as expensive as it is either, and not to mention not being usb-powered and needing a power adapter. I also felt that it's way too bulky than necessary like MPDs. Anyway, there's already some excellent Live templates for Maschine. The fact that you can easily make a custom template and having the dual LCD displays make all the difference.

Maschine + Launchpad = SICK!!!

Get out of here salesman.

i neva got the apc it might bee good but it looks wack, kinda like some kind of board game.

but im becoming more convinced that maschine is the way to go cos most of my samples come off the computer and the speed of workflow is key for me.

whats the filters like on the maschine specifically the lpf? nothing has yet to match the filters on the korg esx but still would like to know how the fx n filters on the maschine stack up?

Yeah, Maschine makes a killer controller for Live. There are many Live templates including the NI supplied one that does the matrix clip launcher like APC/Launchpad. The one I use though is the LiveMaschine template made by fragmented. It gives you instant mapping for transport, arm, vol, sends, and macro controls as well as Group A instantly mapping to whatever 16 pads Live's Drum Rack is focused on. But yeah, APC is a waste of money at this point. Especially since there's a free midi remote script now called LiveOSC for TouchOSC on iPhone/iPad that does all that APC40/Launchpad does and more. I'm selling my Launchpad to save up for the iPad just for this, not to mention all the cool instruments like iElectribe and other controllers and synths.

That's always subjective but let's just say as a former ESX owner, I'm not missing the filter or the fx from the ESX. The effects are top notch imo. It's a sample mangling heaven. Between maschine and Live there are too many sonic possiblities to count. Maschine is a great way to reach new sonic territory and most of all it's extremely fun.

People, do yourselves a favor. Go over to the NI forums and actually interact with users. This is how you get real advice and opinions about the proficiencies and restraints of a product. There's been about 5 lengthy posts here about Maschine with gross debates and tons of biased information, a lot of it either boldly inaccurate or flat out misleading. On this forum you're going to come across 4 types of people.

  • Those who are MPC diehards and hate Maschine, before or after trying one.
  • Those who are on a crusade to convince you that Maschine is the greatest thing ever, who may or may not actually own one.
  • Those who use both, but spend most of their time commenting on here about MPCs and on the NI forum about Maschine, respectively.
  • Those who do not give a shit and simply don't reply at all, or who do give a shit but don't reply.

I've owned Maschine, a lot of it's current features even came out of my own advices and were implemented almost to the letter...which can be verified by some of the more active members there, like Saintjoe and Lotuz and such...simply by me telling them my user name over there (not the same as this one). I do not own Maschine any longer, but not because I'm against it. So, in being neither a proponent nor opposition to Maschine or a MPC, I'm not biased enough to be evangelistic about either. However, some of the information here is far fetched, so please go talk to users and make yourself privy of the real shortcomings, limitations, incompatibilities and lack of features that many users are still frustrated about. On the same note there are many many things that are great about Maschine, but you'd be a fool to take what is being said on these forums as gospel or even applicable to most scenarios. The notion that Maschine is the end all or even the best center-piece of even the majority of computer based setups is appalling, untrue, and reaching quite a bit far. Just saying. No offense to anyone, but it's getting a bit silly now...especially since a lot people "spreading the good news" about Maschine are seemingly careful not to mention very well known impracticalities, lack of features, and forced workarounds that will become apparent within a day spent over on the NI forums.

I don't seek to discredit anyone, but instead to enlighten those who want to make an informed decision before purchasing Maschine or any of it's alternatives. If you do any three things before seriously considering buying Maschine, do these three in this order.....1. Go try one in a store. 2. Go spend a good deal reading the posts on the NI forums. 3. Go back and try it again after learning more about it.

On the same note, don't trust the people on here that bash the Maschine either...as anyone who has owned or used one to any extent will be able to vouch that it's obvious most of them haven't even really tried one.

Many will love Maschine, many will hate it, but at least know before hand what the real pros and cons are....before risking your money...because you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SELL REGISTERED SOFTWARE ANYWHERE NEAR THE PRICE YOU PAID in most cases....and Maschine is still considered a software product.

I see the potential of a product like Maschine. However, I don't believe the hardware is up to the standard set by MPCs. And the software, while powerful, still needs to be updated to reflect the needs of diehard MPC users. There are numerous MPC feature request threads. The JJ OS and Akai MPC 5000 OS2 are reflective of functions that users in this forum have requested for years. NI should continue to address some of these functions in order to win over diehard MPC users.

Also, create a thread or two at MV Nation. Members there will give you plenty of feedback what they feel should be included in an MPC/MV-like product. However, watch your tone. Unlike this forum, Roland has it on lock. You can't say anything negative about the MV or your comments will get deleted...or you will get banned
