Tracking out beats in Pro tools

I was watching a clip on you tube and the guy had his mpc 1000 hooked up to his pro tools, and when he hit record (it was synced with midi) the tracks started recording seperatley(from his mpc...sample, drums, cymbals)....Now it looked like he had 6 quarter inch cables going to a mixer of some sort i think? I only have the small mbox 2, its only got 2 seperate channels on it, but does anybody know if I do get a mixer, that I can do this? I dont have any problems with midi, ive got my keyboard, mpc and pro tools all syncd, but it would really help me out if I could pick a couple tracks, say for instance like the hi hat n snare on a beat on separate tracks so, i could edit n pro tools, take notes out so on and so forth?

To do exactly the same you will need the following:

1. An MPC with EIGHT INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS such as a 2000, 2000XL, 2500, 3000, 4000 etc.

2. A Pro Tools interface which has EIGHT OR MORE AUDIO INPUTS such as the 002, 003 or an M-Audio joint for M-Powered.

Audio connections can be made using analogue or digital connectors (ADAT).

The MPC and Pro Tools are synchronised via MIDI.

What u need is a soundcard with more than 2 outs, like my M audio Delta 1010. It has 10 outs.

An audio interface with many inputs either FIREWIRE or PCI, and you can do this with any DAW.. stay away from usb interfaces.. a mixer will only put out 2 stereo channels..

another option is a fire wire mixer capable of sending numerous outs with only the firewire cable, like the M-Audio NRV10 which is also compatible with pro tools..
