DIY Guide to build a patchbay

so you need this stuff:

1. phono jack board(s) (I got from radio shack)
2. wire
3. soldering equip
4. some kinda housing

so here's what we're working with:


first, attach wires to the coresponding terminals

then. cover the connections in solder

next, find a suitable housing for this and hot glue/ screw the boards in


then its done

thats all for now

damn! good size too, because everyone doesn't have a rack or need 50 connections.

This should be a Sticky, I agree man, not everyone needs like 28 connections.

pretty cool idea..

although most gear uses 1/4" phono connectors. . . and for that you can get a phono patchbay pretty cheap. but if you need one for RCA's then yeah neat solution..

does anyone make mini panels like that for 1/4" phonos?

this could be done with 1/4 connectors, but you'd need to get a bunch of seperate plugs because they didn't have boards with them

Have you noticed any increase in noise, even in the slightest?
Any particular type of solder you recommend?
What gauge wire did you use?

I recommend the thin solder, but I used the thick (cheapest) kind
the wire was from some broken dc power adaptor cord

Good Job on this. From where did you get the idea?

I cant remember who said it, but it was on the forums somebody was asking how to solder something for beginners and they mentioned a patchbay would be easy, so I took the idea.

I don't really need one, but I am going to build it anyway!!
