one shot mode in simpler (all abelton experts)

load a sample more then 8 seconds long into simpler and the shit fades out, on fill length and full release.

how can i make this shit play in true tigger/one shot mode?

set decay to all the way up, set release all the way up
set voice overlap on all samples down to one
make this a preset so when you chop a sample it will load straight up
name it one shot or something
but i prefer sampler to simpler

i think it's not possible - it doesn't have one shot mode. if you set the release all the way up it will sort of work like that for short samples, but on a longer sample you can hear it fade in about 8-10 secs. it's probably possible with sampler but i'm not quite familiar with it.

or you can just sustain the note, can't be that hard

seems weird that something so simple would be over looked in such a comprehensive package, im looking to use drum racks like mp pads to trigger music stabs.

if i load a sample that short less the 4 secs like a drum sound no probs.

chopped phrases longer the 4 seconds slow fade out, despite having decay, sustain and release set to full and length to full.


i have created a simpler one shot template the used that as a basis for a default drum rack but fading of longer samples will not do.

it will not do it and it sucks!!!

i've been using ableton live since version 3. it's come a long way, but still needs some tweaking.

this is one of the main features that they need to fix. they need to make an infinite release time for sampler, drum rack and simpler!!!

they also need a full level button, global tuning feature, note repeat with easy access quantizine settings and a 16 level velocity and tuning setting. basically make drum rack exactly like an MPC.

once they get all this together, ableton will be unbeatable!!!

until then, you have to hold in the pad or key on your controller and release it when you want to hit the next pad or key. this way you dont hear the fade out. it sucks, but it's do able for now.

thats a shame im loving abelton but that lil thing throws salt in how i work might have to go **** with maschine.

The thing I don't like about simpler and sampler is that if you set the release or decay all the way up, you lose the ability to use the envelope to contour the sound.

Its definitely a drawback, but remember you can use any sampler inside a drumrack. For example, Impulse, which does do one shot. That's the thing about Ableton, there's almost always a way to do what you need.

impulse has trigger n gate mode both of which still limit u to a 10 second delay also can u stack samples on drum pads?

how do peeps layer drums on the racks?

i think ima have to set my default drum rack up like an sp 1200 and reduce the length so the maximum sample length is 4 seconds cos anything more and the shit will fade out.

i guess the limit encourages smaller chops

One thing I can't recommend enough if you sample into ableton
Get your slice presets made
Like every time I slice to midi I have my samples chopped to a sampler
with an eq 8 and utility already loaded up ready for tweaking

yup slice to midi is crazy props to saint joe his tutorials got me up n running
and now the default sampler setup within a drum rack got that virtual supped up mpc cracking.

Also, you can consider playing longer samples as clips. There's a way to trigger clips from a MIDI track (its a bit advanced as a technique tho), I can drop some knowledge on it if you like... And last, you can use any sampler inside the drum rack, which includes VST plugins like Battery, etc. I believe you can also set the drum rack up so that a plugin sampler is used by default (or as one of the options in the slice to MIDI presets) when you do the slice to MIDI thing, but I might be wrong on that one.
